According to the saw doctors' web site www.sawdoctors.com the Handley Village Festival has been cancelled due to licencing difficulties.

Although it would have been within walking distance (and earshot) of my home, and I was quite looking forward to it, the idea of 2500 vehicles trying to get down those narrow twisty lanes always did seem pretty silly, not to mention the major landscaping and roadworks that have gone on without planning permission.

It s a great shame that people planning these events don't talk to the locals first, rather than launching in with both feet and getting everyone's back up.

John

I've just checked the festival website http://www.handleyvillagefestival.com/ and it seems to suggest that the festival has moved due to licensing difficulties rather than being cancelled. No mention of the Saw Doctors though so maybe they've had to scale down? Or, I guess, maybe their website is yet to be updated...?
I'm hoping it's not totally cancelled because we're supposed to be playing there!

Current situation is that do to problems with licencing caused by scaremongering locals we have decided to move the event for this year to a private school on the outskirts of Chesterfield which has great facilities including showers. The Saw Doctors pulled out of the gig following us reporting low Friday night ticket sales (Possible due to them taking on to many gigs close together in date and distance apart) All other artists are appearing and we are also including late night ceilidhs. Friday night concert will be rearanged to include and additional artist - watch web site for further info.

We did talk to locals early on and many where supportive until miss information about the nature and frequency of events on the site was circulated. Not sure why 2500 vehicles would be visiting the event when the maximum we could have space at events was 1500 people. Ashovert show down the road attracts 10,000 people per day

Hope people will come to the relocated event - which still has a great line up - we intend to return to the Handley Site in future years.
