Tim -

I'm sure we'd all really like to help; but as you've probably noticed, when 'catters are confused there is a tendency to be "joyously enthusiastic in the confusion."

Please do provide some further identification.

At present I'm stuck with a mental picture of one of those string-ed thingys sometimes made out of armadillos a bit south of here.

John

Tim, we need a picture please. Either to where you bought it or one you take and post a link to.

I hate it when I do that.

He has bought an ants nest, and somebody has run off with his money.

I do hope you haven't been conned Tim.

Hello Tim,

Can you describe the instrument?

How is it played?

Best wishes,

Peter

Ebay's search engine returns no helpful results for pangollin or variant spellings. What was the item number? The description should still be there, if not the picture.

I've got an 8-stringed thingy but it's called a mandolin. Are you sure that you didn't buy something from someone "wid a code id de dose"?

"I need to know how many strings and what tunings etc I will have to use."

OK. It's a shot in the dark, but I'm gonna guess you'll need eight strings.

Hello Tim,

Should you mean a Yangqin...then typing www.philmultic.com/home/instruments/
into your browser of choice will give you details!

If you mean a scaly anteater...make sure it is kept near the biggest ants' nest!

Best wishes,

Peter

Are you sure you have the right spelling for this instrument? Can't find anything about music when I google pangollin, but yeah, a pangolin is a scaly anteater!

Well, in that case, the strings and tunings you need will depend on whether you've bought a diatonic or a pentatonic scaly anteater.
