Subject: Buying Corries in Melbourne? From: Muttley Date: 13 May 07 - 06:14 AM Where, oh where is it possible to find a decent selection of Corries, Corrs etc CD's / music etc in Melbourne, Australia. Tried the usuals like the ABC shops, Borders, JB HiFi, Virgin Mega etc. However, all I found was ONE Corries track on a compilation anthology Any suggestions??? Muttley |

From: Rowan Date: 13 May 07 - 11:16 PM It's years since I lived there Muttley so I don't know the current best bets but Roger Holdsworth, who used to be contactable at the Melb Uni Education Faculty, has a wide range of contacts and sources for all sorts of music. Cheers, Rowan |

Subject: RE: Buying Corries in Melbourne? From: Stewie Date: 14 May 07 - 12:10 AM I very much doubt that you will find a decent selection anywhere in Australia. Folktrax in Adelaide has a 'Very best Of' available online. Your best bet, however, would be to purchase online from Jim Leighton - www.musicinscotland.com. On the several occasions that I have purchased stuff from him, his service has been prompt and reliable, and his prices as good or better than you'll get from an import shop. --Stewie (Darwin, Oz) |
Subject: RE: Buying Corries in Melbourne? From: Bugsy Date: 14 May 07 - 01:30 AM I used to do a lot of business with Gaslight Records, but I don't know if they're still about. Otherwise - there was an independent that used to import a lot of alternative music - mainly rock- can't remember the name now... leave it with me, it may come back.;. CHeers Bugsy |
Subject: RE: Buying Corries in Melbourne? From: Bugsy Date: 14 May 07 - 01:36 AM Muttley - try Shock Records. They have a special import section that may be able to get it for you. I don't know the number but they should be in the book - they're situated somehere in Northcote - and I used to deal with Joel Whitford in Export sales. Might work. Bugsy |
Subject: RE: Buying Corries in Melbourne? From: Rowan Date: 14 May 07 - 06:29 PM Ah, Northcote! Where I went to school, delivered papers, sang in the church choir. The Church of the Epiphany at the top of Rucker's Hill had a spire that could be seen from all over the northern suburbs and had a huge collection of Regimental Colours in the rafters; I wonder what happened to them when the church was sold to the Greek Orthodox community. Bought my first LP from a record shop in the centre at the intersection of Darebin Rd and Station St but I bet there's nothing musical there now. Lots of luck! Cheers, Rowan |

Subject: RE: Buying Corries in Melbourne? From: guitar Date: 15 May 07 - 11:56 AM I sometimes go to Australia for a holiday from Scotland, and I find difficult to find Eric Bogle cd's there, and when I ask the man/woman behind the counter they sometimes say who is Eric Bogle? tom |
Subject: RE: Buying Corries in Melbourne? From: Muttley Date: 15 May 07 - 05:36 PM Now you mention it; Bogle can be hard to locate at times - try looking in the "Country" category as opposed to 'folk'- some even have 'Australian / Australiana' sections; Australian music stores haven't quite woken up to the "folk" genre/category as yet. After all, folk has only been around for a few centuries now! Muttley I'll PM this to you as well Guitar |
Subject: RE: Buying Corries in Melbourne? From: Bugsy Date: 26 May 07 - 08:53 PM So, Muttley, did you find the Corries CD? CHeers Bugsy |
Subject: RE: Buying Corries in Melbourne? From: Muttley Date: 26 May 07 - 09:25 PM Haven't had a chance to check it out yet. For whatever reason; the moment I plan to check out the availabilities - I start getting work everyday. Figures: You've got bugger all work and sit around with your brain in neutral 'cause "the call might come" and there's nothing else planned. You finally gey a plan of action for various things - and work starts crawling outta the bloody woodwork! Mutt |
Subject: RE: Buying Corries in Melbourne? From: Folk Form # 1 Date: 27 May 07 - 01:34 PM I thought the whole idea of going to Australia was to get away from the Corries. |
