That's Thursday next week, 31st May, for George.

This week, if you haven't been to the Topic before or in a while, why not come to the Singers' and Musicians' Night tonight, which is in singaround-from-your-seat style (as opposed to up-on-stage, concert-style).

As John put it in his newsletter, last month's S&M evening

"was described by a first-time visitor as 'a smashing evening', and he wasn’t wrong. No fewer than 17 performers (four of whom were new to the Topic) and a further 7 as audience. We had a real range of styles (and ages, from young teens to 80+), and a consistent level of quality. Free entry, free exit; but do buy a raffle ticket!"

Hi Nick - Great, John said you might be popping along.

Yes the Old Down is in Litton now - and I should stress that this isn't a booking, just a visit. We had a cancellation, so Cathy's kindly making us welcome at a non-guest night. But we hope to fit in a few, and it'll be lovely just to hang out and meet people. (I have fingers crossed we'll be back for a proper booking next year - we do have a date in mind :-) .

Anyone in the Yorkshire area on Thursday; I can heartily recommend both George and the Topic as the very best of nights out. Top songs, lovely voice, great 12-string work, and a totally winning performance. Plus good beer, nice pub, friendly and engaging people - what more could you possibly want? Don't miss it!

Tom

I'm going to be at the Nova Scotia in Bristol - it's an interesting tobacco-stained (at least it looks like it) 200-yr old pub down by the harbourside, which has hosted a folk club for 40 years. Only my second time there (first time was to see Dana and Susan Robinson).

And I'll also be at The Old Down Acoustic Club in Litton, most likely - it's more my regular haunt as it is more local for me (make sure you go to the Kings Arms in Litton, not the club's original location at the Old Down in Emborough).

I'll certainly say hallo - you know my brother John from the Topic in Bradford, for whom I do its website (there's a small YouTube of George Papavgeris of this parish on there right now, as he's appearing next week).

I'm attempting to hatch a masterplan to get to Chippenham, if I'm not there, you'll know it didn't work!

Starting tomorrow.

Chip is going to be a belter for us. The song workshop on reconstructing/ruining old trad songs with Mary and Anahata is going to be special fun!
