Does anyone know how to get rid of Intellimail completely please? I foolishly downloaded it and never use it. Despite several attempts that appear successful the little b*****r keeps appearing.

Assuming that you're using Windows(?)

People often try to remove a program just by deleting files. This seldom gets a complete removal, but can make it difficult to completely remove associated "stuff."

As you don't say how you attempted to remove it, that's not an accusation; just stating what might be pertinent.

If you did attempt removal via just deleting, a common method of getting a more complete cleanup is to reinstall the program and then use:

1. Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs

or

2. An Uninstall program that the unwanted thing left at the time of installation.

Any "Windows compliant" program should appear in the list of programs at the Control Panel Add/Remove entry. Generally, any program that makes Registry entries should be there. If you remove it there, any compliant program should have left an installation logfile that Windows can "follow backwards" to clean up all the Registry entries that were made, so that a complete removal is obtained.

If you just deleted the folder, you'll have deleted the uninstall information, hence it may be necessary to reinstall the program to have everything in place before Windows - or the program's own uninstall program - can do a complete removal.

I don't find a lot of complaints on the web, as I'd expect if this program was really hard to remove. That doesn't necessarily mean that it's not a "bad program." Freebie progams that look a lot like this one are common sources of "other stuff" that's not welcome on a clean machine, especially when - like this one - they claim to do something that can be done in common Windows programs without a separate "widget."

I note also that there's a .org with the name, and you may actually have removed the program but are now getting SPAM about the program, so you'll need to look closely to see if you can tell the difference.

Hi John. Haven't tried again as yet. We're slightly technophobic and can't remember what we did to uninstall it. Will let you know what transpires.

Let us know how it goes. We can't brag about being helpful if you just sit in the corner and curse our bad advice. (Well, we can lie a little bit, but that risks being exposed.)

I don't see any indications in the tech blogs that this should be particularly difficult to get rid of, but I don't know how much exposure it's had (i.e. how many people have tried to use it).

John
