Llantrisant Folk Club (south Wales, UK) is having a night out at the seaside (well close by anyway).

Our usual club night is on Wednesdays at the Windsor Hotel, Pontyclun, but on Wednesday 20 June we will paying a visit to Barry Folk Club, which is relaunching itself at the Castle Hotel (Jewel Street, Barry, Vale of Glamorgan. CF63 3NQ for your map search).

Do come along and enjoy the cream of south Wales' talent (oo-er missus!).

Our club web page is here

It`s traditional to have trips to the seaside in Wales you know. What Splotty didn`t mention was the fact they are laying on a curry for us and all! (I think that swung it for us......)

'Taking my Oyster for Walkies'

'I do like to be beside the seaside'????

As soon as I touched my seaweed I knew it was gonna be wet.

Then there's that crude Pat Boon one, "Burying French letters in the sand"

I say, I say, I say. Don't touch the welks if you're not buying Madam.

Me and the wife and the Mother-in-law
Went down to the silvery sea.
The mother-in-law got into a boat
a sailor she would be.
Hadn't been there a minute or two
when there's an 'orrible shout
Mother-in-law's fell into the sea
And there she's splashing about.
She cries "Help I canna swim!" Tiddy fal la tiddy fal lay.
I said, "Nows the time to learn". Tiddy fal la tiddy fal lay.
The wife she said, "You hound. Are you ganna watch her drown?"
I said, "No I'll shut me eyes". Tiddy fal la tiddy fal lay.
Tra la, tiddy fal la.
Over the wall and out.

"Down to the holiday sea!"

It's holiday, not silvery - the Severn Channel is muddy!

How about after the club all going and sitting in the shelter on the beach and have an ice cream? I expect it'll be raining anyway and we can all put our bathers on and sit in the deckchairs with towels draped over our legs. Who remembers doing that then when you were little? And we were only allowed half an hour in the funfair before we had to get the bus back home, cos that was all we could afford. Then somebody was always sick on the bus-too much candyfloss! Wonderful memories.....

I think they were all buying tomatoes for the soggy sandwiches. Are we going to build a sandsculpture of Dr. Price? (not Mick - I mean the REAL Dr. Price)

Me and 'er indoors would love to have been there. Used to go to Barry Folk club 'mumble mumble' years ago (upstairs at the Coronation Working Men's Club, anybody?), then Llantrisant and then . . . we had kids and had to stop folking around.

Hope you manage another away match in Barry sometime so we can come and see you all again.

Somebody sing the "Poor Old Man" shanty for us.

The teacher's training college had a fine folk club in the late 1960s and early 1970s with guest musicians like the great John James,Barry Dransfield and Decameron......very good.
My old friends Brian Skinner and Brian Evans had a great deal of input into it during their time at the college but there several other good organisers including Jim the banjo player.
