Does anyone have any more information on this song that the Dt has. It says they think it is a pioneer song translated from Russian. I'm using this in my classes for the next week and would like to give them a little more background. Thanks, bet

Do Dick and Susan keep tabs of who submits lyrics to songs they add to the DB? Of course they may have had it from before Mudcat was born. It would be nice if everyone who posts a LYRICS ADD give a brief background of the song, to be included in the DB. --seed

Dick and Susan always put the initials of the contributor at the end of the lyrics. The initials at the end of A PLEA FOR ONE WORLD are DC. I'm guessing Dennis Cook, one of the originators of the Digital Tradition. Am I correct?
I've checked every resource I can think of, and can't find any information about this song.

I learned this one in Girl Scouts, in Colorado, late 60's or early 70's. Slightly different from the dt version, as below:

A plea for one world
is heard in many different lands
This is a plea from a world that is hungry for peace.
When can we all live together?
When will we all work together,
Striving to make the world better
Pledging our lives to peace.

We didn't always sing it as a full round, usually just in two parts, so the second part was on "This is a plea from a" when the first part was singing "world that is hungry for". I'm not sure where that means in terms of starting, but I remember the harmony those two parts made very clearly. It might have been Russian at that. The Girl Scouts were very conscientious about trying to expose us to music from all over the world.

This book is in several Girl Scout songbooks, and also in several books published by the Cooperative Recreation Service / World Around Songs. Unfortunately, no source information.

This is from the Girl Scout Sangham Git Songbook (1997)

ONE WORLD

A plea for one world is heard in many different lands.
This is a plea of a world that is hungry for peace.
Let all men come together, Let all men live together
Striving to make the world better, pledging their lives to peace.

(Unison or two-part round)

I believe this song was written by the Jazz musician Russ Garcia and his wife Gina. They are members of the Baha'i Faith and promote World Peace.
