Subject: Tune Req: Glory Be to God the Father
From: GUEST,Guest

I am looking for an alternate tune to the hymn
"Glory Be to God the Father" Hymn # 173 from Lutheran Worship
Author: Walter G. Whinfield
Tune: Worcester
1st Published in: 1866

Has anyone out there ever heard this hymn played with a different tune?

Or if anyone can point me in the direction of a site where such things can be searched it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you much!

Hi - Cyberhymnal.org shows it with four different tunes:
  • Regent Square, Henry T. Smart, in Psalms and Hymns for Divine Worship (London: 1867)
  • Cwm Rhondda, John Hughes, 1907 (I know this as "Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah")
  • Dismissal, William L. Viner, 1845
  • Worcester (Whinfield), Walter G. Whinfield, 1919 (uses only two words in penultimate line of each stanza)

Four tunes are given at The Cyber Hymnal: GLORY BE TO THE GOD THE FATHER: Regent Square; Cwm Rhondda; Dismissal; and Worcester (Whinfield), the last of which is the Lutheran hymnal's.

Thank you for your efforts, but unfortunately none of the four are the one I am looking for. The one I want is in the head of our former organist who passed away a few years ago. I would love to be able to find the sheet music as it had a more calming worshipful feel to it than those at the cyber hymnal.I do appreciate having that site now, though.

If anyone has any other ideas, please...

Index of The (Evangelical and Reformed) Hymnal, 1941 (see "194 h10194") gives ST. PETERS (or WESTMINSTER). Christian Church Hymns and Tunes - online hymnal with sheet music lists Ennerdale (composer: J. Clippingdale).

The tune in The Canadian Hymnal, revised and enlarged (1900, no. 24) is ST. THOMAS (Webbe), though the author's name given is C. Wesley.
