there's nothing to stop anyone from continuing to sing during the break. it's just not going to be run by the family (who desperately need a break at some point in the day - the work runs from 8am to 6am most days)

I'd endorse Carol's summary right down the line - it's one of the most inclusive and welcoming events of its kind, and the family are great hosts. Long may it continue to raise so much so successfully.

The only little drawback is that the break between afternoon and evening sessions is just a bit too long to be properly useful...!

We've been for the last 3 years since we moved 'up north' and were made very welcome by the Wilkinson family and friends.

I didn't go for years although I knew about it but was under the impression that it was 'by invitation only' but I don't think that's really true.

It's a great weekend for singers that raises money for a very good cause, the local hospice, but the cowhouse can only hold so many people safely and to be honest I wouldn't think that it needed any extra publicity.

I'm a bit confused here.

The link provided by collierlad describes it as a mini folk festival! The website does appear to be advertising this event and welcoming people.

Maybe some people associate the word bender with getting drunk and so it is important to make it clear that this is a charity event and not an excuse for getting drunk.

Both John and nutty do seem to have done that.

Glad to hear you dont need any more attendees.

With that attitude I will also give it a miss - first time in years - but I am finding that 'catters' on this site are very aggresive and it seems are in the flesh as well.

Keep your singaround for the locals then as I was obviously wrong thinking everyone was welcomed .....

JOHN - when this event has been advertised in the past, a small number of sad people have seen it as an excuse to get cheap ale and have spent the weekend getting very drunk and making things uncomfortable for others.
I was not nit-picking, merely stressing that raising money for charity is the prime objective.

Also, seeing how popular the Bender is already, it hardly needs to be advertised in this way.

If you have any problems with this, I can be found in the bender kitchen every morning - talk to me then.

IT IS NOT A CHEAP EQUIVALENT FOR A FOLK FESTIVAL.

There are two such events each year and last year due to an enormous amount of work from the Wilkinson family and friends, over £10,500 was raised.

Because Tranmire is a hamlet on the moors many maps do not recognise it so Ugthorpe, which is the nearest village, would be a good alternative.

this map   CLICK   is probably the best there is but be careful as the signpost for TRANMIRE ONLY is small and very easy to miss.

    Fri,Sat & Sun.
Good music, great crack, cheap beer and mouth watering home made filled buns! Everyone made VERY welcome.

Cheap entrance fee (couple of quid), all of which goes to the local Hospice.

Camping free on site!

Such a great event has always been kept secret by locals who want to keep it for themselves (ha ha).

Best event of the year apart from the second one in September
