Subject: RE: Trying to find a song and artist. From: Barry Finn Date: 14 Mar 97 - 11:50 PM I'm not sure R & B isn't really my thing , but i'm taking at stab at the title is Bring It Back Home not to be confused with another song by the same name done by the Animals & the singer may be Al Greene, maybe in the 70's. This comes from a folkie so I hope I'm not steering wrong just trying to help, |
Subject: RE: Trying to find a song and artist. From: Valery Date: 15 Mar 97 - 01:49 AM Actually, the song is called "Drift Away", but I can't remember the artist! It was a big hit in America in the spring of 1972. Music store sales associates should probably be able to look this up for you. |

Subject: Lyr Add: DRIFT AWAY (Mentor Williams) From: noahd6451@aol.com (Noah Bullock) Date: 15 Mar 97 - 07:04 AM We used to sing this at camp. It's called DRIFT AWAY, and it's sung by Dolby Gray. The words and music though are by Mentor Williams. Here are the lyrics: Without Tabs I'm afraid DRIFT AWAY (Mentor Williams) Day after day I'm more confused. Still I look for the sun through the pouring rain. You know that's a game that I hate to lose, And I'm feeling the strain. Ain't it a shame? Give me the beat, boys, and free my soul. I want to get lost in your rock and roll and drift away. Give me the beat, boys, and free my soul. I want to get lost in your rock and roll and drift away. Beginning to think that I'm wasting time. I don't understand the things I do. World outside looks so unkind, And I'm counting on you to carry me through. Oh, give me the beat, boys, and free my soul. I want to get lost in your rock and roll and drift away. I said give me the beat, boys, and free my soul. I want to get lost in your rock and roll and drift away. When my mind is free, You know that a melody can move me, And when I'm feeling blue, The guitar's coming through to soothe me. Thanks for the joy that you've given me. I want you to know I believe in your song. Rhythm and rhyme and harmony, You've helped me along, making me strong. Oh, give me the beat, boys, and free my soul. I want to get lost in your rock and roll and drift away. I said, give me the beat, boys, and free my soul. I want to get lost in your rock and roll and drift away. Give me the beat, boys, and free my soul. I want to get lost in your rock and roll and drift away, all. I said, give me the beat, boys, and free my soul. I want to get lost in your rock and roll and drift away. Why don't you give me the beat, boys, and free my soul? I want to get lost in your rock and roll and drift away. I said, give me the beat, boys, and free my soul. I want to get lost in your rock and roll and drift away. |
Subject: RE: Trying to find a song and artist. From: Ralph Butts Date: 15 Mar 97 - 07:38 AM One of my favorites. It's Dobie Gray, though. It was later covered in a country version (change words to "I want to get lost in your country soul,...). Can't remenber the country artist, though. ...Tiger |

Subject: RE: Trying to find a song and artist. From: belter Date: 20 Mar 97 - 10:29 AM I know this was done by at least one country artist who did not change the words to 'country soul' except mabe in the final chorous. It may have been Dan Seals or Ronie Milsat, both of whom have a little r &b in their sound anyway. My memory is not to be relied on so it may have been some one else. |
