My dad, Len Domler passed away Saturday at 1:30 pm. He did not suffer long. He, along with my brother, Bill Domler, started the Sounding Board Coffeehouse in CT back in 1973. He will be missed by the entire folk family! Emails can be sent to me - [e-mail]. Thanks everyone! - Janet (Domler) Steucek

My condolences, too. I remember reading some great memories of the Sounding Board, right here on the Mudcat. It's tough when a parent passes on; may you find comfort and peace among friends and family and memories.

Ah yes, the Sounding Board. One of my first venues. I remember that Len hired me, and asked me to sing Old Shep. Probably the only request I ever got for Old Shep.

So sad to hear the news! Len was a real gentleman, and I always enjoyed performing at the Sounding Board and the Family Folk Festivals in Hartford. The Sounding Board was always a class place. Len and Fran were a blessing to anyone who had the pleasure of knowing them.

Len invited me to sing for the Sounding Board in January 2002. I didn't get to meet Len that night as we had the worst snow storm of the winter and Len and Fran decided (wisely) not to come out that night.

When I spoke to Len at the time we confirmed the date, he said my singing reminded him of Jean Redpath (!) Now that's a comparison no one else has ever made :-)

I was sorry not to have met him, though I did meet Bill back in 1998, when I first arrived in the Northeast.

My thoughts are with the Domler family.

My partner Tony and I have done many concerts over the years at the Sounding Board, with both Bill and Len at the helm. I am sorry to hear of Len's passing, and send condolences from both of us to the family, and all friends in the organization. Len was fairly frail the last time I saw him, but in his usual good spirits. He will be missed. I trust he was in heaven a good half hour before the devil knew he was dead; he was the kind of man that would have been.

So sorry to hear this sad news. I always loved playing at the Sounding Board. And when my health took a nosedive in the '90s, Len and all you good people did a benefit for us with Jerry and the Patons and Steve & Cindy and Pete Seeger and Howie Burson and more. We'll never forget you.

Spent many enjoyable evenings at the Sounding Board in the late 70s through the early 90s. Len & Fran ran one of the best coffeehouses, always with wonderful smiles. Len was a great fan of Johnny Cash. I think he secretly wished Cash would walk through the door and pick up a guitar.
