Nice festival, but no camping once again. Shame - no
camping means no festival. I look forward hopefully to when they bring back having a campsite within walking distance.

Well Leigh is well served by the railway and I would have thought there would be some campsite nearby or on Canvey Island, after all it is a holiday area.

A quick google comes up with 2 nearby

Kings Holiday Park
Kings Park
Canvey Island
Essex
SS8 8HE and

East Beach Caravan Park
Shoeburyness
Southend On Sea
Essex
SS3 9SG

trouble is trains rarely run when you want them and if you don't want to (or can't) drive it makes it difficult. Its many years now since I lived in Thundersley and used to take the train into London every day. Maybe one day we'll get down to Leigh for the festival.

And the parking is pretty awful too. We are hosting a floor-spot talent contest at St Clements Church on Saturday. You need to register for it from 12 midday. Fortunately, we have a disabled badge so parking should be ok for us. We'll be driving up from Knockholt, Kent, so hope roads are clear.

Masses of free parking in Leigh within easy enough walking distance. Parking in the centre should be reserved for people for whom walking isn't easy.
........................................

After a day of drinking and playing and singing, a trudge back to a campsite is one thing. Negotiating your way through a public transport system is something else. That's if the last train hasn't gone by the time you stagger up to the station.

And what about the late night sessions on the campsite?

A festival without provision for camping just isn't complete.

I do agree with you. I just don't know Leigh well enough to comment, having only ever been to the folk club once, and only to the festival last year for the first time. We found a parking place and stayed in it. It was in Old Leigh, but not the performers car park, as there was no room in it. Is there enough going on to justify camping?

If you want fifteen minutes of fame, (or so) register with Claudine at St Clements Church at 12 midday Saturday for the F Factor, hosted by TDL

Yes! I'll be there! Sunday, during the day. In strictly folk-punter mode, with a large dollop of Simon Stephenson groupie-dom. Simon's playing at 11.30, before his guest spot in the evening at Walthamstow Folk Club. Between a beer or several I also plan to take in Ron Trueman-Border, The Askew Sisters and Last Night's fun...

...although I'm fascinated by the thought of "Annie's Fantasies"...

Me too, Hamish!

Adrian Nation is worth checking out. And I have been advised to see the Fanous Potatoes. :)

We used to do Leigh FF when I was a dancer with Leigh Folk Festival, and we always had a great time, and managed a paddle, some cockles, (its amazing for those), and some shopping (in the really nice little crafty shops) in between dances, sessions in the pubs etc...
it really is so good, and would highly recommend this festival, the amazing Mawkin (roll on broadstairs!) and the most lovely Jackie Oates (you sooo owe me a pint now Jackie!)

I was at Uni with Miss Oates, and can honestly say that if you haven't seen her, she is worth a look, and there is no better setting to check her out than leigh FF, as it is great.

AND FREEE!!!

p.s. Annie's Fantasies...= rather nifty clog side. check them out!

how could you not go?!

I will be there...though not in Kit, boo hoo!

Charlotte :0)

And a grand day out - despite the cold, wind and rain. I've posted some pictures here: Leigh pix - mostly of Simon! I should explain that the picture tha looks like he's playing to no audience is just cos they were all sheltering from the rain a little further back. There was a very decent crowd for him, and very appreciative.

Also on top form were Last Night's Fun and Pete Morton.

Grand!
