Has anyone else run across this? Rather interesting. Have a look at why he created it: Magnatune.com.

Now that I have looked it over more, I find two things of especial interest...folks can listen to a mix of each genre with the names of each tune mentioned in-between tracks...a nice way to sample all of the artists.

The other thing is someone who may want to use your music in whatever capacity, i.e. for films, etc. can get an immediate license for using their own hand-picked mix with immediate downloads once they pay for it. You can calculate an example of their fees. I did a simple one of one song for a film seen on the internet and distributed worldwide with a budget of under $1000. The sample licensing fee came out to $782.00.

From what I've read each artist gets half of whatever CDs, licensing, etc. cost.

The CDs are priced by the buyer, anywhere from $5 on up with the average being almost $9.

I listen to Magnatune on my computer at work. I have the classical stream playing softly in the background and no one has complained - quite the opposite in fact. They play a lot of Elizabethan/Jacobean lute music which I lurve.

Cheers
