..."everybody's searching for silver and gold
If you're alone when you grow old,
You'll never find comfort in silver and gold"

More lyrics? Any recording artists?

Didn't Burl Ives record it?

That seems to be a different song, with a Christmas theme.

There are many songs with the same title. I think this is the one you want:

SILVER AND GOLD
Words by Henry Prichard. Music by Del Sharbutt and Bob Crosby.
Blue River Music Publishing Co., Hollywood, 1951.
Recorded by Pee Wee King and His Golden West Cowboys.

Silver and gold.

CHORUS: Silver and gold, silver and gold,
Ev'ryone's searchin' for silver and gold.
If you're alone when you grow old,
You'll never find comfort in silver and gold.

1. When days are stormy and gray,
When nights are lonely and cold,
You'll find that kisses will warm your heart
Much faster than silver and gold. CHORUS

2. Though silver's glitter may bring
Fair weather friends to the fold,
But lucky are you if one is true
When you've lost all your silver and gold. CHORUS

3. So give me an armful of love
Give me somebody to hold
Just give me the touch of a tender hand
And you can keep all your silver and gold. CHORUS

4. And after this lifetime is through,
And after your story's been told,
You'll walk into paradise
Still holding your silver and gold. CHORUS

Silver and gold.

All warm and fuzzy until you try to pay a mortgage and buy food with Social Security or better yet get a heart bypass.

SIN, who hasn't had her second cup of coffee

I'm tring to find the words to an old song which might be called Silver and Gold. I have googled this title and parts I can remember that precede the words silver and gold. All I get are the words to a different song. What I can rememberof the song I am looking for:

If you're alone
When you grow old,
You'll never find comfort
In silver and gold.

And after this life time is through
And when you're story's been told.
You'll never walk into paradise
And keep all your silver and gold

Any help would be appreciated

Those are the words I was looking for. My mother used to sing it a lot. It sure brings back memories.

Thanks for such speedy replies.

I remember this song on a green, semi-transparent 45 R.P.M. record when I was a toddler in the early- to mid-1960's. One of the earliest songs I can remember from my very young childhood. I wish I could remember who sang it, or find a recording of it. Just for nostalgia's sake.

YouTube strikes again. Took a little finding, Ted, and it ain't the semi-transparent record you remember, but it is the song :-)
