Whilst White Hares seem to be in the ascendant I wonder if anyone knows the author of this song? We've been singing and sharing it for some time now and it weaves magic whenever it is sung. All we know is that someone called Pip shared it with a friend and that perhaps Pip wrote it; it starts

Do you see the white hare?
Standing still for a moment
There are footprints there
Underneath the earth
The Lady is sleeping
And the Lord of the wood is waiting...

No, but I do sing "Tracks in the snow", written by Steve Thomason and inspired by his childhood growing up on a farm in the Peak Distric, and referring to an Arctic hare (I still see the tracks of white hare in the snow).

Walking up William Clough just a month ago,
I saw a white hare in the heather

Could amost be a line from a song?

Yes, by God, I know exactly where it came from. It's from me-----every time I look in the damn mirror.

Funny thing, Art- I have the same white "hare" nightmare every time I look in a mirror....

Now, as for that song we were talking about, I get the impression it's of recent origin, not a traditional song. The only online reference I found was at http://www.bbc.co.uk/scotland/islandblogging/blogs/000081/archive/2005/03.shtml, which is the same excerpt posted in Belesta's post above.
Where'd you come across the song, Belesta?

The White Hare song was originally written and performed by a singer called Bronwyn David - I have the album on tape called, if memory serves me well (I don't have tapes to hand) Moonshine. The whole tape is a joy, and The White Hare is an old favourite, and I have an MP3 version of it.

Hi Paul, I came across this song a few years ago and have been trying to find out where it came from. Do you still have the MP3 version and if so could you make it available? And do you have any information about Bronwyn David? I can't find anything on the web. I'm hoping to make a recording of it myself soon and would like to credit the writer.

Thanks,

Jackie

The singer is Bronwen Harrison, formerly David, and the album name is Moonstruck. I used to cover white Hare, with Bronwen's permission. I remember it was engineered and mixed by Nigel Shaw at 7th Wave Studios if that's any help.

Do you see the white hare?
Standing still for a moment
There are footprints there
Underneath the earth
The Lady is sleeping
And the Lord of the wood is waiting...

Do you see the white hare?
Standing still for a moment
There are footprints there
Underneath the earth
The Lady is (stearing??)
And the Lord of the wood is making the table ready
And the Lord of the wood is waiting

Do you see the white hare?
Standing still for a moment
There are footprints there
Underneath the earth
The Lady is rising
Hear the Lady rising
See the Lady rising
la, la, la, la, la, la
And the Lord of the wood
And the Lord of the wood
And the Lord of the wood
is ready

I would guess from the sequence sleeping (?) rising, that the missing word is 'stirring'.

WHITE HARE (Krishna)

One pill constipates you,
And the other makes you piss.
And the ones your doctor gives you
Won't do Jack shit about THIS!
Just see Alice if you need to feel bliss....

Hare Rammer, Hare Rammer.......
