Hi,

Does anyone have the words to the Davey Carton song, The Green and Red of Mayo?

Much appreciated.

Hello Graham,
I picked this up off the web somewhere sometime ago. Being from Mayo I rather enjoy this song, especially the live version. It is one of the Sawdoctors (a Galway Band) better songs!
Noel P Browne.

GREEN & RED OF MAYO
.............................

The green and red of Mayo I can see it still:
Its soft and craggy boglands, its tall majestic hills
Where the ocean kisses Ireland and the waves caress its shore.
The feeling it came over me to stay forever more,
Forever more.

From its rolling coastal waters, I can see Croagh Patrick’s peak
Where one Sunday every summer the pilgrims climb the reek,
Where Saint Patrick in its solitude looked down across Clew Bay,
With a ringing of his bell called the faithful there to pray,
There to pray.

Take me to Clare Island, the home of Gránuaile.
Its waters harbour fishes from the herring to the whale,
And now I must depart it, and reality is plain,
May the time not pass so slowly before I set sail again,
Set sail again.

If my mayo was red and green I'd return it to the shop or complain to Paul Newman

Such Heathens!!!!!!!
I'm not refering to you Graham or Noel... It's about time the Saw Docs were given more coverage, the fact that they are the best band to come out of Ireland in the last million years should be enough to warrant their fame and fortune. But alas the fickle world does not work like that, perhaps if they were three attractive sisters and a goonish brother, they too would be multi-millionaires.
When asked which is my favourite Doc's track it's easy to respond.. all of them..
Mick
