I saw them at The Old Down in January and jolly good they were too. As a bonus I discovered that Emily's mother, who was in the audience, had been at the tiny primary-level British Community School in Beirut with me in 1967/8 (though I didn't know her at the time).

To continue the Newcastle connection, I saw Jez Lowe and The Bad Pennies at The Old Down last Friday and jolly good they were as well.

He's one of the best things to have happened to folk since Show of Hands, Seth Lakeman, The Demon Barbers, The Rainbow Chasers and Mawkin!

Do you know why? Because he enjoys himself! YES!!

And he has fits of giggles sometimes which are infectious. Last year at Sidmouth, after I'd seen The Devil's Interval, I came out and was listening to what people were saying (I do that) ;0).....And one lady said "It's a long time since I've been to a folk evening and enjoyed myself so much. You could feel their enthusiasm"

YES!!! YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry....but Les Barker has just come out this great line..."If God had wanted me eat muesli...He'd have made it taste like bacon"

Oh that is GREAT!!!!


AND..Jim Causley dances well too! So there!

AND...he's The Best Hugger In The South West!! :0) :0) :0)

And And...NO you can't have him, because he belongs to Devon!

And I can't wait to see him with Mawkin because sometimes The Devil's Interval play to a much older audience, and they should be being watched by their own generation too. I'd LOVE to see them at Abbotsbury with Show of Hands and being alongside acts like Bellowhead, Seth and The Demon Barbers...Get them out there amongst the young people and watch them take off!

I first heard of this band when I read a review of a Lauren McCormick and Emily Portman gig when they did a version of Tango Till They're Sore.

Does anyone know if they have any plans to release that song on cd at all

I liked the Blood & Honey cd. I was listening to it again at the weekend

Jim Causley is the height of good manners Cecil. Perhaps he was having an off day on that one particular occasion, we all do now and then.

I've met Jim quite a few times now and ALWAYS I have been charmed by his nature and his good manners.

He brings happiness back into folk music! He makes it fun and he makes it entertaining. He was a natural charm, a natural kindness and...a natural talent.

Lizzie - can I ask, now you have got back from Canada - why you feel it is your mission to bring folk music to people when it was doing perfectly well without your assistance, especially over the past few months when you were not posting on any boards.

I have been to two brand new festivals in the past month and I am going to another the weekend after next. Loads of young musicians appearing on the scene, whom you usually start enthusing about them when they are already well known.

Who appointed you?

Although I like Jim as a singer, I might be more supportive of his work if he hadn't drunkenly and rudely interupted a conversation I was having with another performer in the rifle club at Whitby FF a few years ago. Manners cost nothing, reputations can be lost quickly.

Nope, I'm afraid I don't agree with that at all...There are probably loads of new people who find this board each week Anahata..Let them read about many people and hopefully discover what you already know.

Folk has been in a hidden box labelled 'WE know all about it!' for way too long...

And Jim should be being discussed on many boards....not just this one.
