Subject: capos for wider fingerboard ?

hi.. i've got a 34" scale 6 string bass/baritone guitar:

slightly less than 2" fingerbord at the nut;
2+1/2" at the 12th fret;
2+3/4" at the 24th fret..

and an almost flat fingerbord radius...

using very light gauge bass strings....

i'm currently bodging it with an old standard 6 string electric Dunlop capo
that just about works ok without too much fret buzz
but its obviously too small and fiddly to get it in position quick enough...

so any suggestions please,
for a good apropriately wider quick release capo
[probably for 12 string acoustics???]
would be well apreciated..

thanks.....

Try a 12-string Schubb capo.
The Dunlop temds to press down really hard and put the strings out of tune, meaning you have to retune to play.
A properly adjusted Shubb will give you just enough pressure to fret the strings without messing up the tuning.

Skivee, that's exactly what I was going to suggest. Or even a Shubb CLassical capo.

The Bird of Paradise capo would do very nicely for that.

I use a 12 string Shubb on most steel strings out of sheer laziness sometimes, though it was purchased primarily for baritone and 12 string guitars. Introducing a radius to a Shubb classical capo will work too. I think the newer Planet Waves NS capo might fit also, though I seem to have misplaced mine at the moment...

Peace, Mooh.

I was going to suggest a bird, too, or a Kyser Pro-Am

Shubb classical covers my flamenco guitars no problem. (54mm at nut)

I second the Schubb.

You could try a Hamilton, which used to be very popular. They press down quite hard, too.

Depending on the sort of clubs that you go to, they can also be used as a knuckleduster.....

many thanks for suggestions..

so it looks like i'll probably try a 12 string Shubb capo then..

ebay averages just under £15 total inc P&P..

that seems fair enough..

cheers...

The 12-string Shubb is what I use on my 6-string D35S. Works great.

Bob Passante of New jersey does them cheaper on the net and I believe there are some pretty good Shubb copies around

Oh i dunno what the name was, I bought a few Shubbs off Bob, but I noticedthat some guitar mags were giving away Shubb copies with their subscriptions. They are around, I'm afraid youre just going to have to put capos into search on e-bay and find out what they're called.

thanks mates..

got a Shubb C3 12 string capo for my 6 string Bass/Baritone..

works as well as you guys said it would..!!!!

but when i gig this guitar.

i'll need two..

one set up for 1st fret to about the 9th /10th fret..

and another
[i'm getting getting a black one next - for colour coding..!!??]

set up for 12th to 15th frets..

that way i can quickly drop down from standard 6 string E-> e

[or higher]

to a capo on the 5th fret..

then take that off for lowest deepest open strings..

Btw..so is the rubber sleeve quite durable and hardwearing..?

and has anyone tried the more deluxe S3 version..???
