Subject: capos for wider fingerboard ? From: GUEST,punkfolkrocker Date: 12 Jun 07 - 10:23 PM hi.. i've got a 34" scale 6 string bass/baritone guitar: slightly less than 2" fingerbord at the nut; 2+1/2" at the 12th fret; 2+3/4" at the 24th fret.. and an almost flat fingerbord radius... using very light gauge bass strings.... i'm currently bodging it with an old standard 6 string electric Dunlop capo that just about works ok without too much fret buzz but its obviously too small and fiddly to get it in position quick enough... so any suggestions please, for a good apropriately wider quick release capo [probably for 12 string acoustics???] would be well apreciated.. thanks..... |

Subject: RE: capos for wider fingerboard ? From: Skivee Date: 12 Jun 07 - 10:41 PM Try a 12-string Schubb capo. The Dunlop temds to press down really hard and put the strings out of tune, meaning you have to retune to play. A properly adjusted Shubb will give you just enough pressure to fret the strings without messing up the tuning. |

Subject: RE: capos for wider fingerboard ? From: Mooh Date: 13 Jun 07 - 08:32 AM I use a 12 string Shubb on most steel strings out of sheer laziness sometimes, though it was purchased primarily for baritone and 12 string guitars. Introducing a radius to a Shubb classical capo will work too. I think the newer Planet Waves NS capo might fit also, though I seem to have misplaced mine at the moment... Peace, Mooh. |

Subject: RE: capos for wider fingerboard ? From: Gurney Date: 14 Jun 07 - 10:00 PM You could try a Hamilton, which used to be very popular. They press down quite hard, too. Depending on the sort of clubs that you go to, they can also be used as a knuckleduster..... |

Subject: RE: capos for wider fingerboard ? From: GUEST,punkfolkrocker Date: 15 Jun 07 - 12:08 AM many thanks for suggestions.. so it looks like i'll probably try a 12 string Shubb capo then.. ebay averages just under £15 total inc P&P.. that seems fair enough.. cheers... |

Subject: RE: capos for wider fingerboard ? From: Big Al Whittle Date: 15 Jun 07 - 06:04 AM Oh i dunno what the name was, I bought a few Shubbs off Bob, but I noticedthat some guitar mags were giving away Shubb copies with their subscriptions. They are around, I'm afraid youre just going to have to put capos into search on e-bay and find out what they're called. |

Subject: RE: capos for wider fingerboard ? From: GUEST,punkfolkrocker Date: 26 Jun 07 - 01:33 AM thanks mates.. got a Shubb C3 12 string capo for my 6 string Bass/Baritone.. works as well as you guys said it would..!!!! but when i gig this guitar. i'll need two.. one set up for 1st fret to about the 9th /10th fret.. and another [i'm getting getting a black one next - for colour coding..!!??] set up for 12th to 15th frets.. that way i can quickly drop down from standard 6 string E-> e [or higher] to a capo on the 5th fret.. then take that off for lowest deepest open strings.. Btw..so is the rubber sleeve quite durable and hardwearing..? and has anyone tried the more deluxe S3 version..??? |
