Subject: Search Function glitch? From: katlaughing Date: 18 Jun 07 - 05:55 PM I am searching for a specific non-BS thread which I started in the past year, but cannot remember the name of...so, I set the search of thread titles to filter out BS and set the date back a year. It would only display 1000 thread titles, which only went back to this May. When Is et the date to two years, it still only displayed 1000 titles and only back to late spring of this year. Probably too broad of a search with no specific words, huh? Still, I thought we could call up all threads between a certain time frame, regardless. HAve I got it wrong? Thanks, kat |

Subject: RE: Search Function glitch? From: George Seto - af221@chebucto.ns.ca Date: 18 Jun 07 - 06:02 PM Kat, there does seem to be a limit to the # of threads it will bring up. I've run into it before and I believe others have mentioned it in the past. Have you tried the search function looking for msgs created by yourself and try to find it that way. You will spend a lot of time going through page after page, if you (and I you are) like me tend to post a lot, but you will eventually get to it. What can you remember about it? |

Subject: RE: Search Function glitch? From: George Seto - af221@chebucto.ns.ca Date: 18 Jun 07 - 06:06 PM Wow! 28,317 messages you've written. Looks like about 16 or 17 pages back at around 200 per page would take you back to around June 2006 |

Subject: RE: Search Function glitch? From: Jack Campin Date: 18 Jun 07 - 07:36 PM I have just about given up on the Mudcat search engine. There has been a prolonged discussion about the proposed Scottish Mudgather this autumn. So I try to find it using "Scottish", Mudgather" and "2007" as keywords. No matches. I haven't done much better on anything else lately. |

Subject: RE: Search Function glitch? From: Peace Date: 18 Jun 07 - 07:59 PM Should be fairly easy. Find the posts that do not have RE in front of them. Those posts will be ones you started. |

Subject: RE: Search Function glitch? From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 18 Jun 07 - 09:15 PM I've had the 1000 post search problem, too & have also had trouble finding anything in my 2 or 3000 posts! I've even looked in FAQ as I forget lotsa' stuff, but couldn't see anything to help. I believe someone like Joe once posted something about searching, but I dunno who or when, or even if I remember correctly. when someone posts the answer I'll Trace it! good luck sandra |

Subject: RE: Search Function glitch? From: katlaughing Date: 18 Jun 07 - 10:27 PM Guilty as charged, George, 'course in my case (and yours too, I think?) that's almost ten years worth...thanks for the input. I did scan threads I've posted to over the past year and didn't see it. Okay, it was about an older American of African descent, a fantastic guitarist who has played with everybody, who is also becoming famous for his low-sodium bbq sauce. I posted a thread about him with a link to an NPR story about him. Couldn't find it there, either. I am sure it was in the past year, probably past 6-7 months and a lot of folks posted to it...some happy to learn about the fellah behind the music, so to speak. His sauce has his picture on it, but it is not the Joe Jones sauce I found earlier today on google. I am trying to find it for ClaireBear. I haven't been this baffled with a search since i was an cyber-newbie! |

Subject: RE: Search Function glitch? From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 19 Jun 07 - 03:25 PM Put in 27000 for k- and got 12 Jun 99. Put in 23000 and got 21 Mar 00 Put in 1000 and got 23 Mar 07 Up the down staircase. Like Jack Campin, I have found that it is pretty near hopeless. I found one of mine by going to Google. |

Subject: RE: Search Function glitch? From: Joe Offer Date: 19 Jun 07 - 05:19 PM Well, the SuperSearch index still hasn't been updated since the crash of the Summer of 2005. That means that messages more recent than 2005, don't show up in a search. The Filter and the Old Advanced Forum Search (in QuickLinks) cover the whole history of Mudcat, since they search thread and message titles and user name - not the entire text of Mudcat. As Kat found out, the Filter will not return more than 1,000 results. Max restored the Forum several months ago, so all messages should be in proper order. HOWEVER, the restoration set off the message counters, so sometimes the Forum Menu shows a thread has 3 messages when it has a hundred and three. There are search tips in one of the top three messages of the FAQ - I forget which one. -Joe- |
