And I'm an old fashioned socialist Union broad from Cape Breton. |

Subject: RE: Folk music Virility ? From: Stringsinger Date: 25 Jun 07 - 12:53 PM punkfolkrock music is a Johnny-Come-Lately and really is more about janging it to society than creating a viable musical form of expression. You are lucky to live in Cape Breton where there is a viable folk culture that has a rich heritage. You would be well-advised to study this tradition and avail yourself of a vibrant and truly virile musical culture instead of wasting your time railing and ruining your voice by trying to shout down the Establishment. True Revolution occurs when there is a foundation for it not only politically but culturally. The real Socialists leaders are plugged into their historical roots and have used the musical culture of these to advance their ideas. I see Socialism as part of the important aspect of society as well but I think sometimes the punkrockers are skimming the surface of music and not appreciating the place where their music comes from. In short, stop dissing folk culture and understand that without it you would have no viable form of musical expression. Frank |

The most railing and ruining I've done is marching for better public daycare and being strongly pro-union in the same setting. But I suspect socialism in Canada is more mainstream than it appears to be elsewhere. Our provincial gov't here durn near went New Democratic Party last two elections - they are Canada's socialist party. |

Subject: RE: Folk music Virility ? From: stallion Date: 25 Jun 07 - 03:38 PM mmmmmmmm I have probably been on more demos than PFR has had hot dinners, kayaked around the Hunley in the Holy Loch and sung the internationale with a couple a million French demonstrators in Paris. So it is nice to know that todays youth are prepared to do what we had done and our forefathers have done before us. And, from where I am looking, trad folk isn't a class thing it is more inclusive than that, try it, get into the goldfish bowl. |
