Subject: SAUL CANAL FESTIVAL 2007 CANCELLED From: GUEST Date: 25 Jun 07 - 04:47 PM What a crying shame! This is from Simon Care over on the BBC board a short while ago... Discussion: Saul Canal Festival cancelled Messages 1 - 2 of 2 Message 1 - posted by Simon Care (U1633543) **, 56 Minutes Ago Hi, I have just been talking to Jo Heatley, one of the organisers of Folk on the Water, at Saul Canal Festival. She has just informed me that the entire event has been cancelled this weekend. This is due to most of the site being underwater. The entire bill is being transferred to 2008. Check their website for more details. Cheers Simon Care Message 2 - posted by countrylife (U7398724) **, 3 Minutes Ago Just checked the website, those photographs are devestating, lets all hope they can pull through this <<<< Here's the thread concerned. Subject: RE: SAUL CANAL FESTIVAL 2007 CANCELLED From: Mr Red Date: 25 Jun 07 - 05:09 PM Bugger, again. I could walk to that festival. Red wellies since you ask. I was all set to man the Glosfolk stall. Still I have enough on my plate inventing a suitable barrage to deflect water and then another to tank the front door on Joy's farmhouse. This was unprecedented in it's severity. But the warning is there. It ain't gonna get better. Festival organisers need to look to their sites and plan. More global temperature means more evaoration and there is a lot of surface area of water to evaporate. Where does it go? And how long can it stay there? Who'd a thought it would try to fall in big dollops in localised areas? East Europeans - maybe. Residents of Lewes, Boscastle, Lynton and Lynmouth - what was it that history was saying? |
Subject: RE: SAUL CANAL FESTIVAL 2007 CANCELLED From: The Borchester Echo Date: 25 Jun 07 - 05:17 PM Oh. Yes, I remember arriving in Lynton & Lynmouth on what so happened to be the 25th anniversary of that disastrous flood. The weather on that day seemed determined to stage a repetition. I bought a nice yellow anorak. I know about Boscastle but what happened in Lewes? (Shame about Saul festival though). |

Subject: RE: SAUL CANAL FESTIVAL 2007 CANCELLED From: Ruth Archer Date: 25 Jun 07 - 05:51 PM Gut-wrenching. So disappointing for the organisers. Empathy and commisserations to all involved. |
Subject: RE: SAUL CANAL FESTIVAL 2007 CANCELLED From: The Borchester Echo Date: 25 Jun 07 - 06:17 PM Flooded Harvey's Brewery? Good grief, that was disaster on a grand scale. |
Subject: RE: SAUL CANAL FESTIVAL 2007 CANCELLED From: Dave Earl Date: 25 Jun 07 - 06:42 PM Yes but they only lost the finished batch on the ground floor. They were back in business fairly quickly and the batch in progress (on upper floors) was later bottled and sold in bottles as a commemorative ale. Can't remember what they called it (I had several and it was quite potent. Dave |
Subject: RE: SAUL CANAL FESTIVAL 2007 CANCELLED From: Folkiedave Date: 25 Jun 07 - 06:45 PM One of Sheffield's finest boozers (apart from me that is) - the Kelham Island Tavern - has had its cellar flooded. Fortunately they managed to rescue some beer first. |

Subject: RE: SAUL CANAL FESTIVAL 2007 CANCELLED From: Dave Earl Date: 26 Jun 07 - 06:44 AM Might have been Carole. I know it had a very tasty but very strong (in ABV terms) and wasn't around for long as only the one batch was made. Dave |

It was merely to inform as many people as possible about Saul, in case they had made arrangements etc. I apologise Joe, if this caused problems. |
Subject: RE: SAUL CANAL FESTIVAL 2007 CANCELLED From: The Borchester Echo Date: 27 Jun 07 - 02:25 PM Having nothing better to do at the moment (how sad), I've got the MH show streaming. Really informative to hear him announcing the Saul line-up for this weekend. Smoothops have really got their fingers on the pulse, haven't they? Two days after they zapped the link on the F&A website to the sad news that Saul was drowned off, they have failed make this small but vital amendment to a pre-recorded programme. Be it on their own heads if peeps turn up anyway . . . |
Subject: RE: SAUL CANAL FESTIVAL 2007 CANCELLED From: GUEST,countrylife Date: 27 Jun 07 - 03:55 PM the link to Saul on the F&A website ws added again yesterday, 26th June, and it's still there now, surprisingly.....What would we do without Smoothops....../ DON'T answer that one.... *LOL* |
