For all those interested (I'm tied up with Towersey meself) I found this on the UK Music Folk website;

Hobgoblin Music have announced that they will be holding the Hobgoblin Wadebridge Folk Weekend on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday of the August bank holiday weekend this year in the town hall as well as other venues in the town. Several of the artists previously booked to appear have been approached by the new team, and there will be an exciting array of music and dance from local Cornish artists, national folk names and artists signed to the Hobgoblin Records label as well. Ticket info and the final line up will be announced on the Hobgoblin website at www.hobgoblin.com/wadebridge in the next month.

It was announced on June 17th that the 35th Cornwall Folk Festival, which was to have been held in Wadebridge between the 24th and 27th August 2007, had been cancelled.

Eddy Mayhew manager of the Hobgoblin shop in Wadebridge said "Hobgoblin Music was shocked and saddened by the cancellation, we are urgently looking into the possibility of setting up a Hobgoblin weekend of music offering pub sessions, live music and dances centered on the Wadebridge Town Hall. It is too early to be specific but we hope to have something in place very soon to
alleviate the disappointment of festival goers and to ensure that there is continuity of live music over this bank holiday weekend in Wadebridge. We wish the Cornwall Folk Festival organisers good luck in getting the festival back on track next year."

What good news, it's always been part of the west country summer, and the line up previously listed was very fresh as well as recognising the local talent that isnt heard very often and would sorely miss their yearly fix.

I shall regard h-gob in an even better light after this

Nice one Eddy. Tony told me of your mission. I'm pleased it's up and running.

Steve Shaw (Tony's harmonica-playing stooge, he who comes into the shop, runs down your tea-bag supply, generally wastes time and buys nowt! :-)

I'll be at Towersey myself, but many congratulations to Pete and the crew for resuscitating a very pleasant festival.
Good luck, and enjoy.
Regards Ralphie

See you at Towersey Ralphie - but good on the folks in HG for taking this in hand. I went to Wadebridge in the early '80s with Nic Jones - his first festival after his accident and it was a wonderful weekend. Very glad it aen't ded.

Nice to see Hobgoblin doing something useful , rather than turning up at festivals selling instruments that haven't been set up properly!!

I'm certainly not running down Hobgoblin for doing this, but they have a shop in Wadebridge and I'd guess that the business that branch does during the festival is significant, so it's in their interest that a festival happens. This development could be viewed as a plan to cut their losses.

I think from what I know that some of the above comments are somewhat unkind to Hobgoblin.   Fair dues to them for what they're trying to do, eh?

Doom Bar, Wad 6x at the molesworth

Tony and Eddy are great guys and are not to be tarnished, the shop was originally set up by Alan Steele who had an antique shop in Padstow called 'Old Gold' but became enthused with Accordions and when he had a shop full relocated to Wadebridge!!

he sold it on to H G as a going concern so that he could retire again

Alan now lives and plays near St Q highway and holds a session every Tuesday

Sad news about Wadebridge, and good luck to Hobgoblin, if they can salvage the weekend then the contuity will be maintained. I have never missed a Wadebrige weekend since I first went in 82.I and agroup of friends intended to approach the landlord of the Ship to see if he will still extend the usual hospitality over the weekend, however it would appear that the locals do not want the weekend to pass unsung so good luck to them too.
FOLK ON WADEBRIDGE!!!!!

Just the news needed

Look at Holmfirth and Beverley for the lead on this

Please work together for the mutual benefit of music, song, dance, tourism and pleasure

Many hands make light work

Recheck those who can and want to put in and costs and work out the benefits derived
