Thread Name: Tatus- Polish Folk Song
Subject: RE: Tatus- Polish Folk Song
Looking for lyrics to a nursery rhyme/song that when translated into english means (sort of)
Nie pe kurku nie pe - ja oseepum (child's name) mawla bewa noch..........
Its a lullaby to rock the child to sleep. I apologize for the horrible spelling - but hopefully someone will understand my meaning. Thank you!

I know it's "Nie piej, kurku, nie piej," from Three Lullabies by Górecki, H. M., and I found from another source that the lyrics are traditional and mean, "Don't crow, cock, don't crow." There's an interesting page on Górecki in the USC Polish Music Journal.
The search goes on.

This doc file (click) has a fragment:

„Nie piej kurku nie piej
Usypiam Marysię (lalka!)
Całą noc nie spała
Całą noc płakała
Nie wyspała mi się!"

This site [http://www.sms.pc.pl/?gotowe=1207 - watch popups] had a little more:

Nie piej kurku, nie piej,
nie budĄ mi Marysię
Nocka była krótka,
nie wyspała mi się.

Całą noc nie spała,
całą noc płakała.
Lulajże, Marysiu,
lulaj, moja mała.

This page has a translation for the three lullabies:

2. Three Lullabies (1991), opus 49, by Henryk Gorecki

i. Go to sleep,
Go to sleep and grow up.
You will take my geese
To the green pine forest.
Rock the cradle,
Rock yourself,
For when you fall asleep,
I will stack the hay.

ii. Rock, rock
Lime wood cradle.
May Jesus protect you
My son.
Rock, rock
From wall to wall.
Go to sleep, go to sleep
My darling son

iii. Don't crow, cock, don't crow.
Don't wake Mary.
The night was short,
She didn't get enough sleep.
She did not sleep the whole night through.
She wept the whole night.
Hushaby, Mary,
Hushaby, my little one.
