I am looking for the lyrics and also the recording of the song, "Whatever" by the Statler Brothers. I am not talking about "Whatever Happened to Randolph Scott."

Hi, Umpastor-
Can you remember anything of the song?
Is this the one where the parent/olderperson says or asks something, and the teenager's response is always, "Whatever"? I vaguely recall a song like that.

Allmusic.com says that The Statler Brothers recorded a song called WHATEVER on their album "The Legend Goes On," Mercury LP 826278, 1982.

To find the lyrics, it would probably help to have a quote from the song.

WHATEVER HAPPENED TO RANDOLPH SCOTT?
Recorded by The Statler Brothers
Written by Don Reid and Harold Reid

[G] Ev'rybody knows when you [G7] go to the show,
You [C] can't take the kids a-[G] long.
You've gotta read the paper and know the code
Of [A7] G, PG and R [D] and X,
And you [G] gotta know what the [G7] movie's about
Be-[C] fore you even [G] go.
Tex [C] Ritter's gone and [G] Disney's [E7] dead.
The [A7] screen is [D] filled with [G] sex.

CHORUS
[G] Whatever happened to [B7] Randolph Scott
[C] Ridin' the trail a- [G] lone?
Whatever happened to Gene and Tex
And [A7] Roy and Rex, the Du- [D] rango Kid?
Oh, [G] whatever happened to [B7] Randolph Scott
His [C] horse, plain as could be? [G]
[C] Whatever happened to [G] Randolph [E7] Scott
Has [A7] happened to the [D] best of [G] me.

Ev'rybody's tryin' to make a comment
About our doubts and fears.
True Grit's the only movie
I've really understood in years.
You gotta take your analyst along
To see if it's fit to see.
Whatever happened to Randolph Scott
Has happened to the industry.

CHORUS

Whatever happened to Johnny Mack Brown
And Alan "Rocky" Lane?
Whatever happened to Lash LaRue?
I'd love to see them again.
Whatever happened to Smiley Burnett,
Tim Holt and Gene Autry?
Whatever happened to all of these
Has happened to the best of me.
Whatever happened to Randolph Scott
Has happened to the industry.

I found these lyrics at a square-dance web site. The lyrics were interspersed with square-dance "calls" which I have omitted. The lyrics were attributed to "Toots Richardson" who seems to be the square-dance caller who recorded this version.

WHATEVER

Whatever it takes to make you happy, I'll do

Whatever lights your candle, whatever turns your handle
Whatever, whatever is good for you

Whatever peels your banana, whatever plays your piano
Whatever, whatever mows your lawn, let's go on

Whatever plows your garden, whatever begs your pardon
Whatever, whatever breaks your bread, go ahead

Whatever slays your dragon, whatever paints your wagon
Whatever it takes to show your stuff

Whatever, whatever is good for you

Sounds like this to my ears...give or take a word

WHATEVER
Statler Brothers

I'll give you
Whatever hangs your shutter, whatever melts your butter,
Whatever, whatever pops your cork or blows your horn.

Whatever peels your banana, whatever plays your piano,
Whatever, whatever mows your lawn, let's go on.

Whatever it takes to make you better for me,
Whatever it takes to make you happy, I'll do.

Whatever lights your candle, whatever turns your handle,
Whatever, whatever's right for you. Uh, do a little thinkin'.

Whatever cocks your pistol, whatever toots your whistle,
Whatever, whatever sails your boat or gets your goat.

Whatever plows your garden, whatever begs your pardon,
Whatever, whatever bakes your bread, go ahead.

Whatever you wanta do, then always count on me.
Whatever you need now, I will always be.

Whatever slays your dragon, whatever paints your wagon,
Whatever it takes to show your stuff, that's enough.

Not sure if you found the lyrics ever...but I KNOW the song you're talking about and some of the lines were:
Whatever...lights your candle
Whatever...grabs your handle
Whatever...peels your banana
Whatever...cooks your chicken

I wish I could find it also...cannot find it on youtube or anywhere!

WHATEVER
Statler Brothers

I'll give you
Whatever bangs your shutter,
Whatever melts your butter,
Whatever, whatever pops your corn,
Or blows your horn.
Whatever peels your banana,
Whatever plays your piano,
Whatever, whatever mows your lawn.
Let's go on.

Whatever it takes to make it better for you,
Whatever it takes to make you happy, I'll do.

Whatever lights your candle,
Whatever turns your handle,
Whatever, whatever fries your chicken.
Let's
do a little pickin'.

[Interlude]

Whatever cocks your pistol,
Whatever toots your whistle,
Whatever, whatever sails your boat,
Or gets your goat.

Whatever plows your garden,
Whatever begs your pardon,
Whatever, whatever bakes your bread.
Let's go ahead.

Whatever you want, you can always count on me.
Whatever you need, you know I will always be.

Whatever slays your dragon,
Whatever paints your wagon,
Whatever it takes to show your stuff,
That's enough.

Holy smoke. It has been years since I heard this song. I listened to this as a child and my father would sing the lyrics wrong just to irritate me EX: whatever floats your piano, what ever plows your banana, whatever, whatever paints your horn or shucks your corn...

Great blast from the past. Thank you to whomever posted the lyrics.

I remember the song. You should contact Mike at the Record Exchange on Hamptom Ave. in St. Louis, MO. He may have it.
