Subject: Lyr Add: IT RAINS THE SAME IN MISSOURI From: GUEST,Mysterious Stranger Date: 13 Jul 07 - 02:06 PM IT RAINS THE SAME IN MISSOURI Your silent tears are falling on your suitcase filled with clothes. Your trembling lips are telling me we're through. You say you're going far away from me and Idaho To Missouri where the hurt can't get to you. But that silver bird can't hide you from the cloudy things in life. Don't let a lovers' quarrel end it all. You can't run away and hide yourself when things don't go just right. Anywhere you are, the tears are sure to fall. CHORUS: Cause it rains just the same in Missouri As it does here in old Idaho. You'll cry just the same as you find that it rains In Missouri or wherever you go. You seem to think that leaving me and Idaho behind Will keep all the rainy days from you, But out there in Missouri, the sun won't always shine, And you're sure to find the sky's not always blue. CHORUS |

Subject: RE: old song about idaho and missouri From: Joe Offer Date: 13 Jul 07 - 02:54 PM Well, I'd bet "Stranger" got the lyrics here (click). Stranger, have I heard you sing this one? Seems to me this might be the kind of thing you sing only after 4 AM. -Joe- |
Subject: Lyr Add: AWAY, IDAHO From: Charley Noble Date: 13 Jul 07 - 03:44 PM This one does not appear to be in the Digital Archives. Collected by Frank Warner from Deac (C. T.) Martin, 1952 Recorded by Frank Warner on OUR SINGING HERITAGE, Elektra records, 1958. Published in TRADITIONAL AMERICAN FOLK SONGS, edited by Anne Warner, Syracuse University, © 1984, pp. 441-442 AWAY, IDAHO (We're Coming, Idaho) CHORUS: Away, Idaho! We're coming Idaho; Our four-horse team Will soon be seen Way out in Idaho! They say there is a land, Where the crystal waters flow O'er beds of ore of purest gold Way out in Idaho! CHORUS We'll need no sieve or spade, No shovel, pan or hoe; The largest chunks lay top of ground, Way out in Idaho! CHORUS We'll face hard times no more, And want we'll never know, When we have filled our packs with gold, Way out in Idaho! CHORUS Warner notes that this song should not be confused with a railroading song of the same title. Cheerily, Charley Noble |

Subject: RE: old song about idaho and missouri From: Janie Date: 13 Jul 07 - 08:17 PM Shoulda finished that last post. Katie recorded it on "Cookin' with Katie" with the Kate Laur Band back in, I believe, the early '70's. If you are in the Cincinnati area and have a chance to hear Katie perform, jump at it. Dynamite voice, good song writer, and an all round nice woman. Janie |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: It Rains Just the Same in Missouri (Griff From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 11 Apr 14 - 10:13 AM I just read the lyrics of the song, and I think the lady might improve her life quite a bit by getting away from that jeering, obvious-stating, know-it-all. By the way, I've been to both Idaho and Missouri. It may rain in Missouri as in Idaho, but in Missouri winter doesn't end in May and start again in August. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: It Rains Just the Same in Missouri (Griff From: Janie Date: 11 Apr 14 - 04:22 PM Hi Richard. To which song are you referring? Ray Griff wrote "It Rains Just the Same in Missouri" and there recordings of it on Youtube. Charlie posted another song, "Away, Idaho" to this thread. Was that song written by Carson and Autry? |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: It Rains Just the Same in Missouri (Griff From: cnd Date: 17 Feb 21 - 09:45 AM Has anyone else ever noticed the similarities between this song and the Roy Acuff song, Don't Make Me Go To Bed And I'll Be Good, in terms of key, tune, and melody? Do they share a common source, or is it just another case of musical borrowing? |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: It Rains Just the Same in Missouri (Griff From: leeneia Date: 17 Feb 21 - 10:38 AM Recently I've learned a term for the kind of thing the guy is doing in this song. It's called "mansplaining" i.e., stating the obvious in a condescending manner. While pretending to be helpful, mansplainers make it clear they think the woman is stupid. Because of course she knows it rains in Missouri. How else could it be so beautiful? |
