Subject: tuning a baritone uke-what notes?

Hi there. I am trying to get my sisters' baritone ukes tuned up and ready to give back to them with tightened pegs, but can't remember what notes to tune them to. (It's been a long time!)

Does anybody else remember? Tonight's their birthday and if I can get the pegs to sty tight, I'd like o give them back to them.

Thanks very much,

katlaughing

I haven't tuned mine in 20 years, but I tuned it to the high 4 strings of a guitar... d,g,b,e. That way the chords lead into playing guitar. Same as a tenor guitar.

Dear Ross,

That sounds right! I knew it was four strings of the guitar, but didn't know them either! Thank you very much,

Hi kat...Ukes tune to different notes, but the baritone is generally like a guitar as Ross said. Want something fun? Here's a copy of a 1914 Instruction Book.

Seems as if I remember tuning my brother's baritone to somewhere between a guitar's DGBE and a soprano uke's ADF#B, but I could be wrong. What's the tuning for a tenor guitar? I once played one which had an added 5th string, tuned, of course, GDGBD. --seed

Hi, 'Spaw,

That was pretty cool and fun! But, I noticed the tuning ws different, so am assuming that the instructions were for the wee li-ul-un, right?

Thanks, it's good to hear from you.

Hi Kat....The tuning is actually the same, just different notes....Check the intervals between notes and you'll see what I mean. Fingering is the same.

Hey, guys! Thanks a lot! It worked and sounds great, such a sweet tone! Since I sold the piano this week, I went out and bought my first pitchpipe, tuned those babies up and even remembered the three chords I learned as a kid. now I want one of my own, always did! Have to go check the hock shops, I guess. Elderly only has one and it is a vintage 60's Guild for $350.00!

In the meantime, I'll download some mre sheet music and work on the fiddlin'.

Thanks, again,

katl

For some reason I always seemed to have my Dad's tuned to GCEA (or was it DGBE ?), but then again when tuning most of the time by ear the notes probably were not exact....what I do know is that if the uke was tuned so I could sing "My dog has fleas." I was all set. LOL
