Subject: MC Fat not at Stainsby
From: GUEST,MC Fat
Date: 14 Jul 07 - 07:56 AM

Just to let any friends of mine know. Stainsby Festival ( or certain people) have decided in their infinite wisdom to inform me at a week notice that after 15 years they don't want my compering this year. A fact that has saddened and annoyed me. I've decided I'm not going but hope those who are there have a good time and hope to catch up with people at Warwick, Whitby, Shrewsbury, Bromyard and Sheffield Festivals.

Jim

There are people in this world that it is better not to comment on.
Then there are the good guys like Ray.
Have a great time at Saddleworth and see you at Shrewsbury.
Bigbird sends her love.

All the best mate.

I don't think that there's any need to comment on the previous posting except to say that I notice that guest hasn't the bottle to identify themself.

You are being extremely over sensitive Guest ... there is nothing posted in this thread that I feel could be interpreted as "slagging the organisers of Stainsby"

I thought that anonymous 'guest' postings on Mudcat had been done away with?

Jim, I'm setting off for Saddleworth on around midday Friday, I'd be more than happy to make a small detour, it's in the right direction!
As for the guest, Jim would have every right to slag the organisers off the way he's been treated, he's been a strong supporter of the festival for many years, they could at least have some common human decency.
A week's notice for someone who has been a devotee and supporter to your cause for so long is totally unacceptable!

From the Mudcat controllers ....

News as of 30 May 07 From the FAQ, January 9, 2007: From now on, anonymous posting will be watched and controlled. We've had far too many problems with anonymous posters. If you want to post, use a consistent name. We're not requiring registration, although we certainly prefer that. You may certainly use a pseudonym as a user name, but please use that same name every time you post. If you post without using a consistent name, you risk having your messages deleted. ... [more]

And the reason for this was people like you 'guest'. Whatever Jim has or has not said, at least everyone knew who was speaking. I repeat - you're gutless.

Au Contaire my Lord, they are the opportunity for good Knights such as yourself to rid the world of scoundrels .......... however if you don't want to get your hands dirty Saddleworth is a very good reason to avoid the same. Excellent little festival and this will be the first time I've ever missed it but due to work I cannot get there.

Sorry to hear about Stainsby Jim - I know you loved the festival

Sometimes there comes a time when you have to move on though - as you know both as a festival organiser, comparee and artist and sometimes decisions are made last minute but dont look back at the last 15 years look forward to new opportunities and seeing those of us that'll be at Saddlworth!

I hope you chaps and chappeses wont mind if I lend an oar to this thread, even though I am not registered.
I met said MC Fat some years ago at Whitby, the Tap and Stile to be specific.
I have since seen him in "action" at Stainsby,Sheffield,Worral, Warwick and some other events both MC'ing and playing.
Personally I have always enjoyed his style and clear love for folk.
When someone as dedicated to the craft is dismissed behind the cover of a last minute letter I wonder at the character of the instigator of the action.
Far from being a natural folkie, I have been drawn into its wake because all the people I have met so far have been thoughtful, caring people.
This news is not the sort of thing I perhaps naively expect. Credit for loyalty and dedication please. If as it seems you don't respect what someone is doing at least have the decency to discuss it with them directly and positively.
Long live MC Fat at quality festivals

Must buy the last poster Richard a pint. His post perhaps makes what we are all doing worthwhile and at the same time knocks into touch the nasty comments of the cowardly 'guest'. I will be at Saddleworth certainly Friday and most of Saturday maybe a bit more we'll see. I had a really crap week last week but the nice thoughts and proper friendship have seen it through. I will be there all right and i will be on fire. Let us let it roll.......
