I had Glen Osborne over for the event he hadnt seen JB for about 5 yrs

JB turned in at usual time 9.20pm as I was advised not to tell him so he didnt know!

Mo and Jo, Fyrish, Sue and Molly (Gainsborough) and a nice contingent who follow Bernard Wrigley round came as well as the regulars

Had a really good night!

Thanks to all who subscribed to the mudcat card I downloaded and gave it to him

Hiya Padge,
I did as Moorleyman said, and, went to your posting.
Glad you all had a good time-I've got my fingers crossed that the weather stays fine for you all at Saddleworth. I might have to have a stroll down to Staithes after me Sunday dinner with my (and your) mucka, though I don't know how disinteresting it will be to bump into the person who has been upsetting all in sundry with his silly postings on the Staithes and Saddleworth site.
Enough of all this - let's get the thread back to you and Saltburn.
Even if people don't like trophies, the Hundred Quid prize comes in quite handy - it would pay for your ticket and a large part of your ale for the weekend, for doing something - singing - which we all like the opportunity to do. .
Good luck mate - my round next.
Cheers Betsy

Fingers crossed for a cracking time. Don't forget me badges Tig.

Ray P has listed the singarounds and competitions on the Wilsons thread, but what about during the day on Sunday? Is there something missing from the programme ? cos I couldn't see any singaround activity listed except the 2 til 4 slot.
Can anyone closer to the festival organisers tell us?

There is nothing "official" in the way of FREE entertainment (singaround etc) after 4pm on Sunday when a lot of festival goers will be going home.

Saltburn is one of the better festivals for actually organising fringe activities and should be applauded for it.

There is nothing to stop anyone organising an unofficial event otherwise its a matter of putting your hand in your pocket and paying for one of the excellent concerts or joining in the session in the Vic lounge or going to church.

The two Main Concerts are going on between 1.30 and 7.00 so there is not a lot of call for singarounds in that time band .
The Festival Folk club 8-11 om Sunday hosted by Guisborough Folk in the Spa is for Ticket holders but, as someone says lots of ticket holders have gone home by then - so you might chance your arm .

Feeling a bit full at the moment, fresh dug, home grown, new potatoes, bacon, egg, mixed veg and a bit of brie.
When that lot gets down will be starting to load the tentage into the trailer ready for a pre-lunchtime start tomorrow.

Is the pre-festival night at the new venue?

Hiya Sapper Brie indeed !!! What's wrong with a bit of Yugoslavian, artificially-coloured Cheddar.
Just so I don't confuse you after posting something about the Festival Club - the Pre Festival Folk Club is at the Duke William at Skelton - a village outside of Saltburn. Anyone will direct you or better still get the tent up and see if you can scrounge (or pool) lifts so some can enjoy a bevvy. Even pooling a taxi won't be bank-busting. Ask them for a price and try fill it with 4 people . Look forward to seeing you all .
Cheers

Downside is as well as carrying her guitar, child minding and trying to get her gigs I will now have to keep the trophy polished as well!

Her debut album ("NowThen?")due out 8th September with a launch gig at Kirkby Fletham Village Hall, Near Northallerton, Nth Yorkshire (AKA The Centre of the Universe, well ours anyway).

Please let me know if you want info about the gig or CD or you would like me to post a link to "The Visitor" (The winning song) on MySpace (well actually HerSpace).

Banjiman I never realised you were a Catter!

The Badger, Col K and I were the judges and Mrs Banjiman's song was a unanimous choice when we compared marking sheets.

However we were very impressed with the overall standard of entries - we had ties for second and third so it was probably a good job we only had to choose one :-)

I'm looking forward to hearing Wendy again before too long. Please put that link in and then people can hear the winning song.

Well done Ossonflags you earned your win,Bold choice of The Organist as your first song and a passionate rendition. You got there by your own effort. All the more impressive because the competition was tough. Nice bunch of sporting competitors too.

I'm starting to worry about Padgett though
He was all businees and bustle
All entries will be in by one pm and its that .......now
Competion entry closed!
If you are not here when your names called you've had it.

Oooohhh all manly
But a nicely run afternoon

But worse than that he seems to have a name as being one of those people who causes others to forget their words. I was earwigging in the Friday afternoon singaround when that came out. I expected the speakers to start rubbing garlic on and walk around ringing a bell shouting out Padgett warnings. Must investigate the phenomenon further. All gossip welcome.

Me and the olds have just arrived back in Edinburgh after one of the best festivals I think we've ever been to - we'd have booked for next year if we could.

I thought the Fred Jordan competition was cracking - might give it a go next time. So relaxed and fun compared to some of the ones I've been in up here! And congrats again to Mick.

I loved everything about the weekend, but the best bit was how friendly everyone was. We all felt really welcomed and at home from the minute we got there, so thanks to everyone for that.

We're off to Innerleithen Festival on Friday, then straight on down to Whitby on Monday - hope to see and hear some of youse there.

Well mixed messages abound!

OK so the competition had been a bit too laid back in previous years and so this year I put a time of entry to the competition at 12.30 on the Saturday. As it was, I drew the line at 1pm!

The notices had 12.30 on 'em, displayed in the Fest Office and Con club from Friday

The reason we got straight into the competition was due to some criticism I had about running it like a full singaround last year where people other than entrants were singing too before the competition started, and I missed some singers who were not in the competition ( very sorry).

I decided best to get the competition underway from the start and time left to be used as a normal singaround, which is what I did.

Judges will change every year!

This year Michael O'Leary Johns, Steve Gardham, Dave Howdon and Glen Osborne (thanks to all)

Next year Mick McGarry ~this years winner will be a judge [thanks Mick]

Standard was excellent once again and my thanks to all who had the guts to enter, good experience I hope and please enter again next year!!

I dont judge, lost all me friends doing that

Ray Padgett

Hope to have retired from work by next year's competition and have learnt me songs next year!

ps should be a video recording of the singers/event somewhere?

Well done, Mick. Wish I could have been there. Hope to have a busy FF time next year!

Listened to wendy's song; great song and a beautiful voice. Hope she may venture a bit further south soon to East Yorkshire.
