Subject: Keep Right On To The End...Lauder audio From: GUEST,Lakeman Date: 20 Jul 07 - 10:12 PM Does anyone know of an ONLINE AUDIO for Harry Lauder's, "Keep Right On To The End Of The Road." I don't need to be told that you can get the BFC singing it, or that it's available on a CD, I simply need to hear the melody again. I've forgotten most of it and my search has brought up nothing. Thanking you all in anticipation |
Subject: RE: Keep Right On To The End...Lauder audio From: EBarnacle Date: 20 Jul 07 - 11:01 PM There was a source thread a couple of years ago for Sir Harry and other older music hall performers, including many of the story tellers. |
Subject: RE: Keep Right On To The End...Lauder audio From: Peace Date: 20 Jul 07 - 11:05 PM Go to Youtube and enter the song title in the search box--in quotation marks. There are about 10 sites with various soccer(?) team fans in various stages of sobriety 'humming' the melody. It may be enough to refresh your memory. |
Subject: RE: Keep Right On To The End...Lauder audio From: Rasener Date: 21 Jul 07 - 02:17 AM If you go to Birmingham City's first home game, you will be able to join in singing it. Personally I wish they would get to the end of the road :-) |
Subject: RE: Keep Right On To The End...Lauder audio From: Tattie Bogle Date: 21 Jul 07 - 12:24 PM It used to be Ipswich Town's football song back in the good old days in the 60s when Alf Ramsey took us to the League Div 1 championship (no premier league then, so that was TOP!)Don't think it is any more though. |
Subject: RE: Keep Right On To The End...Lauder audio From: Tattie Bogle Date: 21 Jul 07 - 01:05 PM http://www.sirharrylauder.com/lyrics/endroad.html This link will take you to the lyrics (Sir Harry's great-niece) and it says you can get the sheet music by email, so if you can read music, you're hopefully there. Or I could sing it down the phone to you if you PM me! |
Subject: RE: Keep Right On To The End...Lauder audio From: Snuffy Date: 21 Jul 07 - 02:54 PM I have an MP3 of Lauder singing it. Where should I send it? |
Subject: RE: Keep Right On To The End...Lauder audio From: Rasener Date: 21 Jul 07 - 04:15 PM This song was written by Sir Harry Lauder shortly after his son was killed in action in World War I. The Birmingham City FC fans sing this song during their matches and has been sung at St Andrews since the mid 1950's and is still popular today. Except with Aston Villa supporters :-) |

Subject: RE: Keep Right On To The End...Lauder audio From: GUEST,Jim Ward Date: 22 Jul 07 - 06:36 AM This is not the song Lauder wrote after his son was killed in action. The song was " I Wish You Were Here Again" and he dedicated it to all mothers and fathers who had lost their sons - words here |
Subject: RE: Keep Right On To The End...Lauder audio From: Rasener Date: 22 Jul 07 - 07:00 AM This is a quote from wikipedia Quote
Unquote I did say in my previous post "This song was written by Sir Harry Lauder shortly after his son was killed in action in World War I." |
Subject: RE: Keep Right On To The End...Lauder audio From: GUEST,Lakeman Date: 22 Jul 07 - 09:11 AM I wish someone could direct me to an audio site for this song and not turn the thread into a debate about who wrote when and for whom, or who BFC is playing next week. Come on guys. Help out or stay out. |
Subject: RE: Keep Right On To The End...Lauder audio From: Rasener Date: 22 Jul 07 - 01:21 PM Lakeman >>Come on guys. Help out or stay out. << Have you ever thought that some of us mudcatters are in actual fact keeping your thread at the top of the pile until somebody can provide you with what you want. In between times we are feeding information about the song. Ungrateful or what? I personally have done quite a bit of searching trying to get you an answer. You can get about one minute on this link http://www.amazon.com/Love-Lassie-Sir-Harry-Lauder/dp/samples/B000000X1R/ref=dp_tracks_all_1/104-4339427-6079131#disc_1 |
Subject: RE: Keep Right On To The End...Lauder audio From: Tattie Bogle Date: 23 Jul 07 - 06:48 AM Thanks for the clip, Villan, which contains most of the chorus: the verses are slightly different if our ungrateful "friend" wants the whole tune. I also went searching out of interest, but won't be looking for you again, Lakeman. Let him use his own search engines! |
Subject: RE: Keep Right On To The End...Lauder audio From: Rasener Date: 23 Jul 07 - 07:19 AM You are welcome Tattie Bogle. :-) I agree with your comments on Lakeman. Hope its not Seth :-) Have you looked at this link? Lots of Harry Lauder songs to listen to. http://www.besmark.com/lauder.html However you need to be able to roll your r's if you want to sing along. :-) This man was quite amazing. |
Subject: joe offer From: GUEST,lakeman Date: 23 Jul 07 - 11:49 PM Joe, You're in charge there aren't you? Can you shut down the Harry Lauder thread. I got what I want and I'm sick of "Peace" doing a virtual stalk. Thankyou. |
Subject: RE: Keep Right On To The End...Lauder audio From: Stilly River Sage Date: 24 Jul 07 - 12:03 AM We may get there with a smile, With a good kind thought and an end in view. . . The subject seems to have been covered thoroughly. I hadn't heard of this fellow before, so the information filled in by other 'catters was very helpful, as usual. SRS |
Subject: RE: Keep Right On To The End...Lauder audio From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 24 Jul 07 - 12:05 AM Now, now, now... Lakeman, stop being a thread Nazi! This is a discussion forum, not strictly a question and answer forum. It's extremely common and widely accepted for a thread that starts out as a simple request for a bit of information to evolve into a discussion of closely related issues. You don't own this thread. If your original question has been answered to your satisfaction, take that answer and do what you will with it. There's nobody holding a gun to your head and forcing you to read any further posts to this thread. |
Subject: RE: Keep Right On To The End...Lauder audio From: Joe Offer Date: 24 Jul 07 - 12:08 AM I was going to say something, but Bee-dubya-ell said it better. I deleted the off-topic squabbling that didn't belong in this thread. -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: Keep Right On To The End...Lauder audio From: Rasener Date: 24 Jul 07 - 12:50 AM There are quite a number of threads existing already on Harry Lauder, but not sure how you put the links above this thread, or is that a moderator job?

Subject: RE: Keep Right On To The End...Lauder audio From: Tattie Bogle Date: 24 Jul 07 - 07:22 PM Thanks again, Villan. I had a Scottish mother, so was definitely taught to roll my ars and not pronounce loch as lock! Try also listening to Matt McGinn for trrrremendous rrrrrolling of rrrrrrrrrrs! |
Subject: Lyr Add: THE END OF THE ROAD (Harry Lauder) From: Jim Dixon Date: 25 Jul 07 - 01:54 AM Copied from A Celebration of Sir Harry Lauder: THE END OF THE ROAD William Dillon and Harry Lauder, 1924. 1. Ev'ry road thro' life is a long, long road, fill'd with joys and sorrows too. As you journey on, how your heart will yearn for the things most dear to you. With wealth and love 'tis so, But onward we must go. CHORUS: Keep right on to the end of the road. Keep right on to the end. Tho' the way be long, let your heart be strong. Keep right on round the bend. Tho' you're tired and weary, still journey on, till you come to your happy abode, Where all the love you've been dreaming of will be there at the end of the road. 2. With a big stout heart to a long steep hill, we may get there with a smile; With a good kind thought and an end in view, we may cut short many a mile. So let courage ev'ry day Be your guiding star alway. |

Subject: RE: Keep Right On To The End...Lauder audio From: Morris-ey Date: 25 Jul 07 - 05:28 AM The song was used in a TV advert many years ago advertisng Dunlop SP4 tyres (tires). |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: The End of the Road (Harry Lauder) From: GUEST,fortbruce Date: 01 Feb 08 - 09:36 AM Actually, "Keep Right on the the End of the Road" was written in memory of his son, "I Wish You Were Here Again" was written after the death of his wife "Nance" in 1927. |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: The End of the Road (Harry Lauder) From: GUEST,harvey andrews Date: 01 Feb 08 - 02:26 PM Ah Villan, I can't read that lyric without getting right emotional and teary! Sums up my club doesn't it? But much better than the triumphal or hate filled songs and chants that spoil the game today. Where there's the song, there's hope! |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: The End of the Road (Harry Lauder) From: GUEST,Jarvis Date: 15 Mar 08 - 10:33 AM Hey, has anyone got a MIDI of this? I've had a good hunt on the internet but come up with nothing. I'm after the MIDI as, strange as it may sound, I'm going to put together an instrumental Metal/Rock cover, and I'd prefer to get the notes spot on rather than try and do it by ear. Thanks much if anyone can help! |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: The End of the Road (Harry Lauder) From: Rasener Date: 15 Mar 08 - 01:04 PM LOL Harvey, it looks like they are going down the wrong road.. Much to yours and Shep Woolley's disappointment I guess :-) Having said that, my team have screwed up Europe. What a fine City we have :-) |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: The End of the Road (Harry Lauder) From: Tattie Bogle Date: 17 Mar 08 - 08:07 PM Guest, Jarvis: See postings on 21.07.07. Snuffy offered an MP3, I offered to sing it down the phone.................but not sure if you're going to give it the heavy metal treatment! There are limits!! |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: The End of the Road (Harry Lauder) From: GUEST,Jarvis Date: 18 Mar 08 - 08:41 PM I was asking for the MIDI as I was going to upload it into Guitar Pro and get the correct notes the quick and easy way, ha! As for it being a heavy metal treatment, it's more of a Rock/Metal tribute to Birmingham City for my solo project. It's nothing serious, and I'm certainly not going to attempt to cover the whole thing, just the main melody of the chant we use at fortress St. Andrews! Sorry if anyone thinks I'm commiting an act of blasphemy! lol. Anywho, I'll attempt to work out the notes by ear at some point. Thanks for your help, Tattie. |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: The End of the Road (Harry Lauder) From: Jim Dixon Date: 17 Oct 11 - 08:59 PM You can hear Harry Lauder sing THE END OF THE ROAD at the Internet Archive: Click for an MP3. |
