Thanks for doing that Vaughan, my hand writing sucked after writing it out 5 times.

It was a great weekend, thanks to all of you who made it so. Same time next year, then?

Subject: Lyr add: Piggy on a spit
From: Snuffy
Date: 02 Sep 07 - 06:13 PM

Nicky's in the kitchen drinking gin
Hi-o, piggy on a spit
There's a lot of big knives, so I ain't going in
Hi-o, piggy on a spit
Alan bears the boar's head in
Hi-o, piggy on a spit
Which one has the bigger grin?
Hi-o, piggy on a spit

Piggy on a spit in a field in Verwood
Oh, what a wonderful thing to eat
David's slaving at the fire pit
Standing there turning a piggy on a spit
Hi-o, piggy on a spit
Hey-o, piggy on a spit
Hi-o, piggy on a spit
Hey-o, piggy on a spit

Kitty sings like a nightingale,
And even louder when she's full of ale.
We like looking at Derek's knees
He must drink pints of antifreeze

Kathy and John are like their cats
They bring up the cream, let's leave it at that.
Peter Collins has a great big voice
When he sings, we listen - we have no choice

We're all gathered at the Wareham Wail
Bloody good singing and lots of ale
The kitchen staff have done us proud
Let's sing our song and sing it loud.

Thanks to everyone who made it such a great weekend - organisers, Task Force and everyone who came along and sang or listened. Lots of wonderful singing, good fellowship and hugely entertaining banquet. Could Morticia or someone from her table let me have the words of the piggy on a spit shanty, please as I don't think I've heard any other song about Derek's knees...

Kitty

Thanks to Alan and Nikkie for another brilliant weekend. Jillie lost her Wareham Virginity at 8.45 on Saturday night. We all looked very carefully for it but couldn't find it anywhere. And as for LTS... Are you sure you were a virgin? You knew what to do with that pointy bit and how to jiggle it about to get a best fit!!!

Can't help but notice that despite my announcing I'm a virgin, no-one has offered to look after me.

I am somewhat disappointed.

But I have spare mediaeval dress for Severn should he require.

I'm a virgin too.

Waits for laughter to die down.

Honestly - the last time I went to a folk event at Wareham, it was the 18Wareham Folk Harvest, a splendid little festival that unfortunately stopped about 20 years ago. I will be attending in the form of an exile returned to her homeland so there had better be some sympathetic hugs for me too!

Being a virgin is Ok Jillie. Jon's offered to look after you!!!   You'll love it but make sure you have something warm to put round you at the Feast as it can sometimes get a bit chilly in the marquee.... but I suppose if you said you were a bit chilly you could just get lots and lots of people hugging you to keep you warm. We'll be having the new camper warming with Pimms, courtesy of the Mudcat Virtual public house, on saturday.

Only 4 days? Doesn't give me much time to recover from Towersey!

I'm not sure when I'm getting there as I have an errand to do during the day... I may not even make it til Saturday morning so Micca, if you want your tent for Friday, you'd better pick it up by Thursday night!

Looking forward to seeing you again Phot - but can you please get that hound to have a bath soon - in the Barn at Towersey, he was attracting flies! Good job my tankard has a lid...

Pig roasts are fairly traditional in England - the mediaeval banquet menu does cater for vegetarians, though I can understand that they might not want to attend an event which involves singing the Boar's Head Carol as the pig's head is borne on a salver to the top table.

The big attractions of the Wareham (relocated to Verwood) Wail are the high standard of unaccompanied singing and the lovely rural Dorset setting.

I have a suggested cure and it involves a couple of fields in Dorset, an indefinite number of like-minded loonies, several marquees and a pig. Yes, honestly guys, a pig.

Between the above and the fun to be had in kidnapping it's head, presumably after it's been separated from the rest of it, there is not much mention of the pig.

So loonies, tell me;
Is it alive when it arrives at the wail with the killing all part of the festivities?
Should it be billed as a "dead pig"?
It all sounds very traditional and a wonderful feature for the weekend.
Think I'll give it all a miss.

Al
