Due to threats of local flooding plus a plethora of more trifling items I didn't manage to get to Stainsby this year. The first one that I have missed in some twelve years or so. Anyone go - any reports/opinions?

According to joules it was mud, mud, mud and a little bit of mud thrown in for good measure!
She sisn't say much about whether it was any good!

I know ken came home early as his leg was bad and walking around in the mud wasnt doing him any good - no comments on what the festival was like though

Indeed, mud was the predominant theme - "God bless the Duke of Wellington" was my regular cry :) Other than that though, it was great - obviously, I would say that as a performer etc., but when the heavens finally closed on Sunday, the feeling on the field (dubbed the Field Of Wet Dreams for the weekend) was one of triumph that we'd all made it :)

Huge respect for the site crew - they'd laid an aluminium roadway down to about half-way, but from there on down it was all carrying by hand - they did an amazing job.

Some of the performances were superb - Dick Gaughan was as brilliant as ever, Nathan Kaye was completely enchanting and for some strange reason, each time Praying for the Rain (and then the Dominic/Amanda set) played, it *stopped* raining.

All in all, it still felt like Stainsby, but with added work! Indeed, it was a shame Ken couldn't make Sunday - even the fittest among us were struggling up and down the field (whereas normally it takes an hour to get down to the toilet, what with all the "Ey oop - not seen thi since last year" etc., this year was 1 1/2 hours at least) - I came home Mon night and slept for 14 hours straight!

I was really sorry not to make it on Sunday as it was the 1st day I've missed in 37 years but congratulations to all concerned.
Lester's (of C,B&S)parody of the Grand Old Duke of York, summed it all up
"when they were up they were up,
when they were down,
and the rest of the time they were up to their balls
in a sea of liquid brown."
