Subject: Lyr Add: another leaf - the last leaf From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 26 Jul 07 - 01:21 PM We've had a couple threads about leaf songs lately, and they brought this song to mind. Too bad I can't remember how the bridge goes, because it's playable on fretted dulcimer. The last leaf clings to the bough Just one leaf, that's all there is now. And my last hope lies [lives?] with that lonely leaf, lonely leaf With the last leaf that clings to the bough. Last summer beneath this tree My love swore she'd come to me. "Before the leaves of autumn touch the ground, touch the ground," My love swore she'd be homeward bound. Then one by one the leaves began to fall And now that winter's come to call... The last leaf clings to the bough Just one leaf, that's all there is now Will my last hope fall with that lonely leaf, lonely leaf With the last leaf that clings to the bough? Bough, bough, bough . . . I'm practicing making the sound of rushing wind which ended the original recording. The cats are looking at my funny, however. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Add: another leaf - the last leaf From: Jim Dixon Date: 26 Jul 07 - 07:01 PM That song is called THE LAST LEAF. It was written by Bodie Chandler and Edward McKendry in 1963, and recorded by The Cascades. It's on an album called "The Very Best of the Cascades." If you look up the album on Allmusic.com (you might need to register to do this, but it's a very valuable resource if you do a lot of music research) you can play a sound sample that begins with…guess what?...the bridge! You might be able to find the same sound sample on other web sites. I'd look more, but I gotta run. |
