Look up Mick Maloney's CD called "McNally's Row of Flats." There was an extended interview rebroadcast about this on Terry Gross' Fresh Air last week on March 16. It was rebroadcast from March 20, 2006. Here is the link. He specifically discussed the song "Harrigan" and who the man was.

I grew up singing lots of oldtime songs, including "Harrington." The knowledge of these songs have given me a never ending supply for singalongs of all age groups.

Does anyone remember a kid's show in the 70's called Harrigan? I believe it used this song as the theme. Haven't heard anything about it in forever. It was a kid's show about a leprechaun. That's about all I remember....I have tried to search for it but all I can find is the show called Harrigan & Son. Thanks!

Wiseass kid that I was, I'd always sing the last line as "Harriganuc, that's me." Well, he did spell it "H-A-double R-I-G-A-N-you-see" just moments before....

John - You're probably thinking of "Yankee Doodle Dandy" with James Cagney. I also think you're confusing the song/title of the film with "Dixie," which was not part of the film or had any connection to George M. -- Tom

The only time I have heard this sung was on an episode of MASH (Henry Morgan - Col. Potter was singing it).

Wow...it was the 1960-61 season, and starred Pat O'Brien as James Harrington Sr. and Roger Perry as James Harrington Jr. I'm afraid I don't recall either of them very well. But I was only 6--it's amazing that I remember the theme song! It sounds like they were lawyers, since one episode was called "My Fair Lawyer".

It was a half hour show, but only lasted 1 season. No further details yet.

As I recall (which I often do very badly), this song was used as the theme song to a 60's TV show called "Harrigan," which was about a man and his son, who were...lawyers? private investigators? sewer pipe salesmen? Anybody remember?
