Here you go, Red and White Rabbit:

I learnt the lyrics myself just 3 months ago. I don't suppose that you have the chords? It's a lovely, lovely song but I think it needs that accompaniment. I got the lyrics just by listening to the song of Derek Gifford’s CD "When All Men Sing", which has some great singers’ songs on.

WHEN THE NIGHTINGALE SINGS
(Derek Gifford)

When you feel you’re getting older and the wind of fortune’s colder
And you need to get your bearings on roundabouts and swings
I'm the one to turn to, do the things that I have learnt to
And I'll be there beside you when the Nightingale she sings

Well, it seems we get no younger and I know that it's small wonder
And to be with me at times must be trying beyond call
For there's not much conversation but there's always compensation
That I'll be there beside you when the Nightingale she sings

When your life from merely galling turns to downright plain appalling
To clear away the tensions that on us this life do bring
Take a leave from all the talking, get your boots, we'll go a-walking
And I'll be there beside you when the Nightingale she sings

For give me those simple pleasures, such are life's true treasures
And a peace and contemplation to an easy mind they bring
So let nature’s joy surround us for right royally she's crowned us
And I'll be there beside you when the Nightingale she sings

You can keep your fancy dining, other things refining
For there's a life for us beyond all of these sophisticated things
So show me that special caring of the sort that's meant for sharing
And I'll be there beside you when the Nightingale she sings

For she knows a finer note than any man has wrote
It's a piece of love and joy that she to us does sing
So come and take my arm, love, for the Nightingale shall charm us
And I'll be there beside you when the Nightingale she sings

Yes, come and take my arm, love, for the Nightingale shall charm us
And I'll be there beside you when the Nightingale she sings

- sorry havent had chance to get guitar out yet but thats my next job when I finish here

at first play through I think DG plays it in E

chords

E A G# B

even though
"for she knows a finer note..." changes the chord sequence still fits

hope this helps

Thanks for that. It sounds as if we frequent similar pubs. Our paths must have crossed at sometime. Maybe this year as well at some time.

Cheers
