Is this the one?
^^
A Newfoundland Come Home Song

We've spanned the Great Island, we've bridged the wide streams,
Building the new Newfoundland of our dreams;
We welcome our kinfolk, and all those who roam,
Back to the firesides, the warm hearths of home.

Then come in your thousands our first Come Home Year,
Give us your blessing and join us in cheer;
Though letters and phone calls we always enjoy,
You in the flesh is what we want, me boy!

So bring all the family and park them on us,
Junior and Senior, we don't mind the fuss;
Leave all cares behind wherever you are,
Start the cruise homeward, our doors are ajar.

You don't have to linger if boats are stormbound,
Don't have to wait till the steamer calls round;
There's rivers to fish in with dry or wet fly,
Guides to instruct those who Seldom-Come-By.

Discover once more in the land of your birth,
Sweet simple pleasures and sources of mirth;
There'll be lots of weddings, there's one at Renews —
Jig a few codfish and cook your own brewis!

We'll sing the old songs, there's some new ones just out,
Try out your tonsils and make a glad shout;
Nobody may ask you, so just Come-By-Chance,
Join the soiree at the Keliigrew's dance.

Our time spent together will ebb like the tide,
Distance may part us but never divide;
We want you to know we are proud that you came —
Some things have changed but the folks are the same.

Arthur R. Scammell,

There was a different song that was recorded by the Irish Descendants that had that line as a refrain, I believe ("Come home to Newfoundland"). Maybe a search for their website would produce something. I might take a look later, if I have time.

I believe the song I'm thinking of is called "The Rollin' of the Sea", and it has the refrain, "Come home (or back?) to Newfoundland and Labrador". From the Look to the Sea album. I can't find lyrics for it ...

I found that one in my search, Meself.
Pretty sure this is the one the guest was looking for.

Could be this Dick Nolan song, pasted here from GEST's site. I have it on vinyl on Stompin Tom's "Live At The Horseshoe" album.

^^
Come Where We're At (Come Home To Newfoundland)
(by Dick Nolan)

Come home to Newfoundland, it's come home year,
All the Newfies will be gathered here;
There's lots of fish and brews and treats like that,
So don't stay where you're to, come where we're at.

You'll find salt herring, salmon steaks galore,
A welcome mat will be at every door;
The lake trout down here they jump 8 feet high,
So come on home and let's sing I'se The B'y.

There's lots of nice things down here to be seen,
The air you breathe is always fresh and clean;
The pretty girls are down here by the score,
So come on home, you won't roam any more.

Air Canada they land here every day,
Or the William Carson'll take you across the bay;
So come on home we'll make some good home brew,
And the R.C.M.P. will help us drink it, too.

The people that live here are genuine,
They'll shake your hand and greet you with a smile;
They're friendly folk and they just love to mix,
So come to Newfoundland in '66.

Come home to Newfoundland, it's come home year,
All the Newfies will be gathered here;
There's lots of fish and brews and treats like that,
So don't stay where you're to, come where we're at.
No, don't stay where you're to, come where we're at.

Sounds like that would be the one. Also sounds like there must have been a contest that year for the best "Come Home to Newfoundland (& poor neglected Labrador)" song.

Does Newfoundland have to include Labrador in everything it does?
Naw but you're right about the contest.

It does now, Jim - presumably the province's recent name change was to signal to Quebec just who owns Labrador!

Justifiable, given what I vaguely recollect of Quebec's past dealings with Labrador and Hydro Electricity.
The present situation however, has served only to diminish the identity of both provinces.
Anyway, it looks like this thread was just a hit and run.

I just re-read the initial post and saw that the song in question was from 1966 - the official linking of the name Labrador to Newfoundland happened much later, so that would seem to eliminate the Irish Descendants' song. Seems like it's probably the Dick Nolan song, which contains the actual line quoted in the OP ...

The one I posted by Arthur R. Scammell, was written in 1966 for the coming home year.

Yeah, I realize that, but since the Dick Nolan song contains the phrase "Come Home Year" (as does the Scammell song), it was presumably written at the same time, for the same occasion; i.e., the contest ...
