Subject: Tech: repairing broken fiddle bow From: erinmaidin Date: 31 Jul 07 - 02:15 PM Sadly, my favorite bow has been broken. It is a clean break about 5 inches from the tip (on the shaft). Wondering has anyone ever had much success with repairing a broken shaft and if hide glue would be the way to go? |

This may well turn out to be more than you paid for it in the first place, of course, if they even think the attempt worthwhile. There are various ways of repairing broken bows that competent amateurs can manage, but don't attempt any of them until you are sure that you have nothing to lose: you may wind up with a usable bow, but it will be a different one. Hide glue on its own is unlikely to hold, I would think. |
