Subject: Chris & Thomas - new CD, Land of Sea From: katlaughing Date: 07 Aug 07 - 12:18 AM Hadn't heard of this duo until they were on NPR on World Cafe, recently. Found their myspace page and have really been enjoying their songs, harmony, and pickin'. Have a listen: Click Here. Here's what NPR says ( they list themselves as "Indie/Folk/Alternative"): The folk-pop duo Chris and Thomas formed when the pair was enrolled at art school in Liverpool, where they played shows while earning music degrees in film composition. After a stint running a traveling cooking show out of an old utility van, the duo relocated to Los Angeles and self-released the Vista Street Sessions EP. A whirlwind of touring and recording followed, as buzz built for a follow-up. Vista Street Sessions laid the groundwork for the new full-length Land of Sea in more ways than one — the new disc repurposes five of its six tracks — but Land of Sea builds on its promise with remarkable new songs, gorgeous harmonies (think Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young) and crisp production by renowned producer/engineer Mark Howard. |

Subject: RE: Chris & Thomas - new CD, Land of Sea From: Jack Campin Date: 07 Aug 07 - 12:09 PM I looked up their website about a year ago when their agent spammed a Scottish music forum with an announcement of a tour. They make Dido sound gutsy. I'm sure John Leonard and Mike Harding will love them. Or maybe they should just aim straight for "Friday Night is Music Night". |
Subject: RE: Chris & Thomas - new CD, Land of Sea From: katlaughing Date: 07 Aug 07 - 12:57 PM Jack, did you actually go to their myspace site and listen to their new tracks? Granted they may sound "soft" to you, but they have some beautiful harmonies and good arrangements. I esp. like the mando playing. I don't hear anything that would suggest Friday Night is Music Night, from what I've read about that "classical" music program. I've not heard it so I may not have it right. Well, anyway to each his own and I think they are well worth a listen. |
Subject: RE: Chris & Thomas - new CD, Land of Sea From: Jack Campin Date: 07 Aug 07 - 04:51 PM I don't do MurdochSpace. The stuff I heard was on their own site. "Friday Night is Music Night" isn't a classical programme, it's electronic Horlicks. |
Subject: RE: Chris & Thomas - new CD, Land of Sea From: katlaughing Date: 07 Aug 07 - 05:01 PM Well, by not going to myspace you're just cutting off your nose to spite your face, so to speak. Their own website says it is out of date to please visit their myspace site. It's obvious you don't care if they've done anything different from what you've heard any way, so no problem. The first reference on google which I found to Friday Night etc. said classical and mentioned and ocrhestra. I see an expanded explanation further along. My fault for not invetigating more. I still think they are worth listening to and wonder why you bother to post once you have stated your opposition. |
Subject: RE: Chris & Thomas - new CD, Land of Sea From: Alba Date: 07 Aug 07 - 10:41 PM Been away and only saw this tonight. Great CD. Great Voices. They are building quite the following of fans Kat. Well earned too I'd say. Good to hear young bloods who can actually write a Song and then sing it like they mean it. Strikes me they are more about playing their Music than massaging their egos. That's refreshing. Now how do I find a bloody agent that would go the trouble of doing their job well, in fact. going as far as to announce (hardly spamming) my gigs on Music Forums in my hometurf in Scotland (and elsewhere around the planet when I am on Tour for that matter!). See am no fussy how the word gets out there when it comes to letting folks know who I am and where I'm playing. I think that a great idea. Quite a few people "spam" the Mudcat with gigs announcements although they would be mortified if someone told them that is what letting folks know you're playing through a "Music" Forum was being called lately! *BG* Thanks for giving the lads a nod Kat. I am sure they will be delighted. Mark Howard is a really, really good producer/engineer. Land of the Sea. Nice one. Awe the best hen, Love and Light to all as always. Jude |

Subject: RE: Chris & Thomas - new CD, Land of Sea From: Jack Campin Date: 08 Aug 07 - 04:33 AM Why would anybody help promote Murdoch's objectives when they had a site of their own? Technically, their own site worked very well, much better than MurdochSpace. |
Subject: RE: Chris & Thomas - new CD, Land of Sea From: katlaughing Date: 10 Aug 07 - 12:45 AM Ah, well, maybe you should ask Jed Marum, Jim Lad, and the many others who are also on myspace. Or, maybe you should open your mind like a parachute and jump. |
