Trevor was a close friend and stayed in my house when in Brittany ( Quimper)in the mid seventies. I had released a few records in those years under my first name" Gweltaz" he took part in one in 1975 : "Bonedoù ruz" ( Musidisc-Europe FLD 646 ).I still have his 12 stringed guitar ( shaped like a lute) and his anglo concertina. Sorry I've been away distracted from the Trev quest .. we know who took the stuff, but not what's been taken .. which is the problem ..

I've hit a lot of walls trying to find who might have helped with Trev's affairs after he left the UK..

If anyone remembers who his manager might have been - at Decca - as it was then, that may be a terrific help?

I agree with Bryn Pugh except that in one respect I go a little further. I think there is no question that an application for Probate (or letters of administration if no will) in wanted needs to start with Probate in England (recognised in Scotland and Northern Ireland since the 30s) - Administration of Estates Act - since it appears that the property was in England, and if there are intellectual property rights like copyright or performers' rights in issue those subsist and devolve according to the laws of each respective jurisdiction. Usually intellectual property rights are forgotten about in many wills so unless there is a gift of residue there may well be a partial intestacy anyway.

'Misappropriation', in this context, might constitute a section 1 Theft Act 1968 offence - where X without lawful authority treats the property of Y as X's own, with intent permanently to deprive Y.

It might also be a Tort (Civil law offence) - Unlawful Interference with Goods pursuant to provisions of the Torts (Interference with Goods) Act 1977.

In my opinio (for what it is worth) I think the lex fori for Probate would be England, as the forum conveniens.

I think, Nemesis, you need expert Legal advice, here.

One ambition of mine is to replace my copy of A Parcel of Old Crams which I sold on decades ago, in error and in haste!

I am on the mailing list of one or two companies dealing in second-hand vinyl. A whole swathe of new 'folk' records has just become available on one of them. Could this be the same? I will forward you more details if useful.

We knew Trevor when he lived in Dublin. I wasn't aware he had died. He and Tomm Munnelly were very good friends. Hope you have some success with you quest.

Trevor died in Malawi and his son is a resident and, as far as I know, a citizen of that country. Trevor retained (again, as far as I know) British citizenship. So where would probate of his estate be administered?

Search to see if there has been a grant of probate or letters of administration. If not, his children should apply. That will give them title to their father's possessions that were not sold before death and enable them to assert his rights.

I was Trevor's friend in the early 1970s after he'd come back from Trinity College, Dublin and was staying at Archway in the basement of a house with Tim Hart and Maddy Prior upstairs and Robin Dransfield on the top.

The only band I recall that Nemesis has not listed was Bearded Oyster with Lea Nicholson and, I think, Johnny Moynihan. I'll keep in touch with any more information I can find which might help Ciaron Crozier.

...a collection of Trevor's music which could have included any number of tapes, LPs, bootlegs, master copies or not, etc etc with any number, variety, combination etc of British folk artists has potentially been misappropriated within the last fortnight here in the UK. (Given the circumstances, the words 'opportunist' and 'vulture' springs to mind)....

Not only is this of huge sentimental value, but because this has 'disappeared' before being catalogued it is a potentially a great loss to the archives of the UK's folk music history.

Somewhere, possibly, a private collector might be very keen to get hold of this material - but, more importantly, it should by rights belong to Trevor's young orphan son

Please, if you care about the principals of integrity, respect, vs unjust exploitation of musicians' repertoire - let alone, what amounts to grave-robbing - please keep your ears and eyes peeled for this material.

Off the top of my head, Trev worked/ recorded/ gigged/ was mates with (in no particular order) (please fill in the gaps, correct my memory (below))

This is a first (publicly aired) inquiry about this - please help if you can or want to.. I will be googling around to put more details together, but I know that Mudcatters have unprecedented and arcane knowledge, so your input would be welcome.

I'm hoping we can get a more complete picture for his young son - who's now an orphan in Malawi, and anyone who's seen the news about orphans and conditions in Malawi will understand this)..
