What a lovely song! Ultimate Guitar has posted chords for this song.

Mick Moloney and Eugene O'Donnell recorded this song on a Green Linnet record, called "Uncommon Bonds" (c) 1984, but also released on CD in 2007.

@John Wood - Robbie O'Connell wrote the song and he is from Waterford. I used to work in The Black Rose (Roisín Dubh) in Boston back in the 80s and Robbie was a regular singer there. Loved hearing him sing. Great voice, sings from his heart. Sent me the chords for DADGAD too - very kind.

Does anyone know where I can get the lyrics and, if available, guitar chords to THE ROAD TO DUNMORE, as sung by Robbie O'Connell in the album CLANCY, O'CONNELL & CLANCY? I cannot find it in the mudcat/digital tradition data base or in any sheet music in the music stores in the Raleigh, NC, area. I would be grateful for any suggestions or help. Many thanks. John

It is indeed Dunmore East.I could have typed in the cover notes yesterday but it was late and i was tired!
``The coast of County Waterford is among my favorite places in Ireland.The town of Dunmore East is the scene for this song of separation,a very familar topic in Irish songs.´´
That's all it says about the song on the cover.
I met Robbie about three years ago when he played at a little Irish pub in Oslo called ``Shanachie´´.He was with Liam Clancy and they played three evenings!This must have been in the autumn of 1995 when I think about it.I know this because I sent Lian a CD that I produced and that wasn't finished until November.

Liam and Robbie made a CD with Liam's son Dónal.It's called strangely enough ``Clancy,O'Connell & Clancy.´´
Recorded and mixed at Liam's studio -Ring,County Waterford.I met them all again at Skagen(Denmark) music festival where they were promoting this CD.
This is rambling on a bit...I guess I'm trying to show Robbie's connection with County Waterford,but then again ,maybe he comes from there originally?
Anybody else know the answer to that question??

Paddy is alive and (reasonably) well! He was performing at a small festival of traditional singing in Feakle, CO. Clare., at which he was presented with a special award for his contribution to traditional singing over the years. The voice is no longer what it used to be, of course, but the energy and spirit remain. Not sure what age he is - late seventies or so? I have his two books somewhere and must check.

HIs talent for controversy also remains - I might tell the story in the "song appropriatenes" thread!

Road to Dunmore is on a Robbie O'Connell CD. called ``The Love of the Land ´´.According to the cover,he wrote it in 1987.Unfortunatly there's no texts in the cover ,but I can write them off by hand if no one else comes up with anything.

Any more info? I heard Paddy Tunney singing one called "The Banks of Dunmore" at the weekend. Sort of 19c. theological chat-up lines for people of differing religions. Certainly the first song I've heard with the word "transubstantiation" in it !
