The following is a message forwarded from Janpieter Chielens:

------ english version ------

Dear all,

Next week, on the 25th of august, we're organising the first "Troost van Schoonheid" (the Comfort of Beauty). This will be the first in a hopefully long line of yearly concerts. Just because we like organising concerts and specifically to commemorate Carmen Gruwez, who died on the 25th of August in 2006.

The concert is open to all and it would be great if we got some people to come to Reningelst (in the Belgian Westhoek) on the 25th. The event starts at seven. We have food and drinks available all the time. More importantly and if we may say so ourselves: we have a great line-up.

19:00 Mastercab & Bird to Be (warm-up triphop + psych folk)
19:45 Luuk Gruwez (poetry reading)
20:00 Coope, Boyes & Simpson (English a capella folktrio)
21:15 Maggie Holland (English singer-songwriter)
22:00 Family De Cauter (New Orleans Jazz, Gypsy Swing)
...

All of this and more at the old Rookop brewey in Reningelst (near Poperinge) on the Reningelstplein. Entrance is 10 euros. The Troost van Schoonheid has a last.fm events page on http://www.last.fm/event/313832 with a link to Google Maps and more info on the artists.

It would be great if you could get there and also: please forward this message!

Regards and maybe we see each other on saturday

Sounds good to me , but I am working Saturday , and as its Bank Holiday a lot of UK Folkies will be Festivalling !
But that area is worth a look , apart from the excellent line up for the concert - Its WW1 Country with a vengeance . The Cemetries , trenches etc !!

Love to be there maggie, but rather short notice.

A long time since we saw you in Gainsborough, Lincs., at the 'Eight Jolly Brewers', but we're still singing your songs! :-)

Have a great concert, 'knock 'em dead' as they say, and please give Lester 'all the best' from his old sailing buddy, JB in Gainsborough.

I would LOVE to go,as I love Flanders ( I have many happy memories of employment service VDAB in Wevelgem & Kortrijk ) ,and would happily accompany Leadfingers on a visit, but Bank Holiday is a busy time festival -wise for us in England, so maybe next year ? On a different date ? With Wim Poesen playing ( please !) ?

It's inevitable that it will clash with other events, but the concert will always be at the same time of year. The date is none of our choosing, but August 25th 2006 is when, after a short and horrible illness, our dear friend Carmen Gruwez died in Reningelst - we will celebrate her life with music and good company.

"Overnight" is pretty likely to be included, Henry. It'll be nice to see you, though I doubt that I'll be short of delicious beer. Try a Trappist bier from the (local) Westvleteren monastery if you can - first amongst equals in my opinion!

Tot ziens

Maggie
