I wish I could help. What I can share is that I had the chance to meet and see Jesse (Lone Cat) Fuller in action once. It was 1958 or early 1959, in Fresno, CA, in a little coffee house called The Renaissance. Jesse was a real one-man-band, with gutbucket base, guitar, harmonica and all. Seeing him do San Francisco Bay Blues and all, live, was a rare treat. Of course, I had no idea at the time that he was something of a "living legend," or that so many were aware of him. Good luck with your quest.

Several versions of WHOA MULE have already been posted in this old thread:

Lyr Req: Whoa Mule.

You might be able to piece together a version you like, even if it isn't exactly what Jesse Fuller sang.

Gran'pa had an old grey mule, his name was Simon Slick,
Longest ears you ever did see and how that mule could kick,
Went to fetch that mule one mornin' and he met me at the door with a smile,
Wagged one ear an' he winked his eye an' he kicked me half a mile!

WHOA MULE, Whoa mule I say,
Whoa mule, you scowlin' beast, you can't get away.

That's how I recall it anyways.
He included my favourite verse to any song, ever,

Mosquito fly high, Mosquito fly low,
If I get my foot on your neck you won't fly high no mo'

I can remember Jesse Fuller being on "Saturday Club" - Saturday mornings on BBC (steam) radio back in the 1960's.
He told the story that his wife said to him:
"Jesse, how you goin' to be a one man band?"

and he said:
"Just watch ma smoke!"
