Lizzie isn't going to stop posting under various names. It might be a good idea if those of us who recognise her just ignore her.

In all of her posts she raves about the same subjects, uses the same expressions and punctuation and makes the same grammatical mistakes so she's easy to spot.

Back OT, I'm happy to dsay that Jackie and Wistman's Woood will be playing Loughborough Folk Festival, 7 - 9 March 2008. I really enjoyed them at Sidmouth.

Why are you so negative and derisory?

It's a crap review from someone without much idea of what the music is about. It's dismissive of Shirley Collins, assuming that she is 'finished' and betrays a scant knowledge of her work. For example, No Roses, which I saw being recorded at Island and I still have the test pressing) was not an 'Albion Band' recording but a Shirley solo project and merely used some of the musicians who later formed the first Albion Country Band.

That the review (of Jackie Oates' first album which is not even the subject of this thread) was largely a paraphrase of Phil Beer's website doesn't make it any better. It is ill-informed and there are far more informative ones about.

From a website sponsored by John Lewis and, like the store, a tad dated, being a review of Jackie's first solo album.
(Think I'll look for one of Beam and post that).
The reviewer is well into the spirit of wild speculation though:
'her voice is reminiscent at times of Kate Rusby' Eh? How? And:
'carrying on from where Shirley left off' which will come as some surprise to Ms Collins who hasn't 'left off' anything yet.
Though let's be charitable.
These were probably the only two other female singers he'd heard of.
Which would explain why he didn't know Broken Town is a Helen Bell composition.

Well, not exactly, Wistmans Wood is a federation of 3 musicians, in which Jackie just happens to be one third.

But, when down in Devon this weekend, I did get a fore-taste both of the photography for the new album, and a few of the tracks. Look out for both, in the fullness of time.

Also got to sample the indiginous singarounds round Exeter, thanks very much to everyone in East Devon for welcoming and nurturing we midlanders in your midst, I enjoyed Saturday afternoon at the Turf Locks.

Hi Folks.
Just butting in. The Bridge gig is actually Isambards annual outing to the westcountry. Jackie and I would have been opening but she has just been offered a last minute show at the 'Spitz' festival in London that night so I'm afraid its just me. Hope thats OK. Jackies album is complete barring contributions from Tim Van Eyken and Jim Moray. A release date will be posted on the Chudleigh Roots site as soon as these tracks are completed. We are reviewing all the other tracks today!!

Slight thread drift but you can see Jackie along with Phil (and ourselves!) at The Bridge Inn in Topsham on Thursday 6th of this month. Booking stuff is on our gigs page. It doesn't actually have her on there because we only found out she was coming as well a couple of days ago. Should be a fun night!

In a romantic way? Jackie and Jim currently share a flat (along with fellow Devon young folkie Matt Norman) so have plenty of opportunities to sing together.

I'm enjoying James Dumbelton's guitar work in the video particularly. It occurs to me that he could easily be the next Ian Carr or Martin Simpson. Incredible.

I enjoyed that video clip. Was interested to hear the result, "Donal Og" on Genevieve Tudor's Radio Shropshire programme this last Sunday (and on-line on "Listen Again") as well. It doesn't seem 5 minutes since the last c.d. from Jackie, but looking forward to hearing the rest of the new one, and it being released and available.

Looking forward to this. I enjoyed her last album. I think with people like Jackie Oates (and Lisa Knapp, Memory Band, Devils Interval, Rachel Unthank, etc) around - who are bringing out exceelent albums, well produced, nicely presented and taking the music outside of the narrow world of the folk scene (whilst still keeping a foot in it), the music's in pretty safe hands.

She got another viola off Tim Phillips.
And you shouldn't really hold your breath over this new CD,
It'll be along when it's ready (not that it won't be worth waiting for, obviously.
