Subject: Jackie Oates new album From: GUEST,Sailorboy Date: 24 Aug 07 - 07:14 AM There appears to be a new Jackie Oates album in the pipeline. Short video on the Phil Beer website under studio heading. |
Subject: RE: Jackie Oates new album From: GUEST, Topsie Date: 24 Aug 07 - 05:15 PM Did Jacqui ever get her fiddle back? |
Subject: RE: Jackie Oates new album From: The Borchester Echo Date: 25 Aug 07 - 02:47 PM Well. since no-one else has answered (and to boing a Jackie thread up), no she didn't. She got another viola off Tim Phillips. And you shouldn't really hold your breath over this new CD, It'll be along when it's ready (not that it won't be worth waiting for, obviously. You know how long the last one took. And that's only just got distribution . . . |
Subject: RE: Jackie Oates new album From: KeithofChester Date: 26 Aug 07 - 03:59 AM Here is the link to the "studio" page. Link to Video |
Subject: RE: Jackie Oates new album From: Giant Folk Eyeball (inactive) Date: 26 Aug 07 - 04:32 AM Looking forward to this. I enjoyed her last album. I think with people like Jackie Oates (and Lisa Knapp, Memory Band, Devils Interval, Rachel Unthank, etc) around - who are bringing out exceelent albums, well produced, nicely presented and taking the music outside of the narrow world of the folk scene (whilst still keeping a foot in it), the music's in pretty safe hands. Cheers Nigel |
Subject: RE: Jackie Oates new album From: GUEST,Can't wait to buy that! Date: 26 Aug 07 - 08:22 AM Oops! Just testing! GREAT video Sir Keith of Chester! Great studio Phil! Jackie Oates has a very beautiful voice. I see Jim Causley's on Phil's list of artists. Jim and Jackie would be smashing together wouldn't they! |
Subject: RE: Jackie Oates new album From: GUEST,cardboard cutout Date: 29 Aug 07 - 03:49 PM I enjoyed that video clip. Was interested to hear the result, "Donal Og" on Genevieve Tudor's Radio Shropshire programme this last Sunday (and on-line on "Listen Again") as well. It doesn't seem 5 minutes since the last c.d. from Jackie, but looking forward to hearing the rest of the new one, and it being released and available. |
Subject: RE: Jackie Oates new album From: SimonS Date: 30 Aug 07 - 05:34 AM I see Jim Causley's on Phil's list of artists. Jim and Jackie would be smashing together wouldn't they! In a romantic way? Jackie and Jim currently share a flat (along with fellow Devon young folkie Matt Norman) so have plenty of opportunities to sing together. I'm enjoying James Dumbelton's guitar work in the video particularly. It occurs to me that he could easily be the next Ian Carr or Martin Simpson. Incredible. |
Subject: RE: Jackie Oates new album From: mattkeen Date: 31 Aug 07 - 09:29 AM The album looks to be available now directly from Jackie's website |
Subject: RE: Jackie Oates new album From: The Borchester Echo Date: 31 Aug 07 - 09:47 AM That's the first one. There is, in the meantime, the seven-track Wistman's Wood EP that she recorded with Steve Turner and Andy Clarke. |
Subject: RE: Jackie Oates new album From: Giant Folk Eyeball (inactive) Date: 31 Aug 07 - 09:59 AM Diane, where do you find out about all this stuff? I seem to miss half of it. Are you on lots of mailing lists or am I reading the wrong magazines? Maybe I need to buy fRoots EVERY month? Or should I subscribe to Living Tradition? Or what? Cheers Nigel |
Subject: RE: Jackie Oates new album From: Giant Folk Eyeball (inactive) Date: 31 Aug 07 - 10:40 AM Thanking you kindly, GUEST, Music Lover! Cheers Nigel |

Subject: RE: Jackie Oates new album From: GUEST Date: 01 Sep 07 - 04:58 AM Slight thread drift but you can see Jackie along with Phil (and ourselves!) at The Bridge Inn in Topsham on Thursday 6th of this month. Booking stuff is on our gigs page. It doesn't actually have her on there because we only found out she was coming as well a couple of days ago. Should be a fun night! Chris |
Subject: RE: Jackie Oates new album From: GUEST,Phil B Date: 01 Sep 07 - 05:58 AM Hi Folks. Just butting in. The Bridge gig is actually Isambards annual outing to the westcountry. Jackie and I would have been opening but she has just been offered a last minute show at the 'Spitz' festival in London that night so I'm afraid its just me. Hope thats OK. Jackies album is complete barring contributions from Tim Van Eyken and Jim Moray. A release date will be posted on the Chudleigh Roots site as soon as these tracks are completed. We are reviewing all the other tracks today!! |
Subject: RE: Jackie Oates new album From: The Borchester Echo Date: 01 Sep 07 - 12:43 PM 'Derek Schofield' whoever you are Good grief. Surely even the low-level window sills and restricted horizons of lizziecornish must have been breached by the persona that is Derek Schofield. |
Subject: RE: Jackie Oates new album From: The Borchester Echo Date: 01 Sep 07 - 01:13 PM Oh dear. The latest Sidmouth Seagull culling operation has obliterated Wistman's Wood. |
Subject: RE: Jackie Oates new album From: countrylife Date: 01 Sep 07 - 02:39 PM and here's me thinking this thread was about the new Jackie Oates CD........ |
Subject: RE: Jackie Oates new album From: The Borchester Echo Date: 01 Sep 07 - 02:45 PM Wistman's Wood is the latest Jackie Oates CD. |
Subject: RE: Jackie Oates new album From: countrylife Date: 01 Sep 07 - 02:54 PM yes I know..... |
Subject: RE: Jackie Oates new album From: GUEST,cardboard cutout Date: 01 Sep 07 - 05:24 PM "Wistmans Wood" is the latest Jackie Oates CD" Well, not exactly, Wistmans Wood is a federation of 3 musicians, in which Jackie just happens to be one third. But, when down in Devon this weekend, I did get a fore-taste both of the photography for the new album, and a few of the tracks. Look out for both, in the fullness of time. Also got to sample the indiginous singarounds round Exeter, thanks very much to everyone in East Devon for welcoming and nurturing we midlanders in your midst, I enjoyed Saturday afternoon at the Turf Locks. |
Subject: RE: Jackie Oates new album From: GUEST,cardboard cutout Date: 01 Sep 07 - 05:45 PM Sorry, I mean Friday afternoon (What day is it today, again?) |
Subject: RE: Jackie Oates new album From: The Borchester Echo Date: 02 Sep 07 - 03:46 AM And, there again, there might be a new Van Eyken soonish . . . |
Subject: RE: Jackie Oates new album From: GUEST,cardboard cutout Date: 02 Sep 07 - 04:04 AM There might.........but not until Tim Van Eyken's involvement in "War Horse" at the Olivier Theatre is finished, and so on. |
Subject: RE: Jackie Oates new album From: Ruth Archer Date: 03 Sep 07 - 06:03 AM I think Jackie Oates and Jim Causley would make a lovely couple. That Derek Whatsisname is probably just bitter and jealous. |
Subject: RE: Jackie Oates new album From: treewind Date: 03 Sep 07 - 08:24 AM [giggle!] A. |
Subject: RE: Jackie Oates new album From: GUEST,Jim C Date: 03 Sep 07 - 11:10 AM I actually REALLY fancy Jackie but i daren't tell her or anyone else as i fear it may ruin our working relationship. My boyfriend would probably dump me too! |
Subject: RE: Jackie Oates new album From: Ruth Archer Date: 03 Sep 07 - 11:38 AM Jim, I think it's highly inappropriate for you to be discussing your personal life on Mudcat. Mudcat is quite clearly for discussing the personal lives of people you don't know. And speculatibng wildly about them. Anyway, I never said which one of you that Derek Whatsisname would be bitter and jealous over... |
Subject: RE: Jackie Oates new album From: GUEST,surprised Date: 03 Sep 07 - 01:04 PM An' there we were thinking that Mudcat was for discussing folk music, talking of which: Review Of Jackie Oates |
Subject: RE: Jackie Oates new album From: The Borchester Echo Date: 03 Sep 07 - 01:25 PM From a website sponsored by John Lewis and, like the store, a tad dated, being a review of Jackie's first solo album. (Think I'll look for one of Beam and post that). The reviewer is well into the spirit of wild speculation though: 'her voice is reminiscent at times of Kate Rusby' Eh? How? And: 'carrying on from where Shirley left off' which will come as some surprise to Ms Collins who hasn't 'left off' anything yet. Though let's be charitable. These were probably the only two other female singers he'd heard of. Which would explain why he didn't know Broken Town is a Helen Bell composition. |
Subject: RE: Jackie Oates new album From: peregrina Date: 03 Sep 07 - 02:08 PM Anyone know where the Wistman's Wood CD can be ordered from? Thanks. |
Subject: RE: Jackie Oates new album From: The Borchester Echo Date: 03 Sep 07 - 02:23 PM Possibly be sending a message via the site link above. As I know them, I'm ineligible to discuss details of their personal lives. Ruth said so. Or I suppose you could PM me. |
Subject: RE: Jackie Oates new album From: GUEST,cardboard cutout Date: 03 Sep 07 - 03:49 PM Peregrina, if you can navigate your way to Jackie's site from the links above, and leave a message, I'm sure she'll sell you one. As I remember they're £6 + P & P. |
Subject: RE: Jackie Oates new album From: peregrina Date: 03 Sep 07 - 04:00 PM thanks so much Diane and guest cardboard cutout |
Subject: RE: Jackie Oates new album From: The Borchester Echo Date: 03 Sep 07 - 04:11 PM Why are you so negative and derisory? It's a crap review from someone without much idea of what the music is about. It's dismissive of Shirley Collins, assuming that she is 'finished' and betrays a scant knowledge of her work. For example, No Roses, which I saw being recorded at Island and I still have the test pressing) was not an 'Albion Band' recording but a Shirley solo project and merely used some of the musicians who later formed the first Albion Country Band. That the review (of Jackie Oates' first album which is not even the subject of this thread) was largely a paraphrase of Phil Beer's website doesn't make it any better. It is ill-informed and there are far more informative ones about. |
Subject: RE: Jackie Oates new album From: GUEST,cardboard cutout Date: 03 Sep 07 - 04:38 PM Anyway, that's quite enough about Jackie for the moment. Too much hype and attention can prove quite a poisoned chalice... |
Subject: RE: Jackie Oates new album From: The Borchester Echo Date: 04 Sep 07 - 03:17 AM Mother knows best. Try asking J's brother for a confirmatory viewpoint. |
Subject: RE: Jackie Oates new album From: The Borchester Echo Date: 04 Sep 07 - 03:37 AM Go away, lizzie. |
Subject: RE: Jackie Oates new album From: GUEST,Simon Date: 04 Sep 07 - 06:11 AM Don't be too harsh on her, she's just been zapped on the BBC Board after typing one message! |
Subject: RE: Jackie Oates new album From: mattkeen Date: 04 Sep 07 - 06:16 AM Do be harsh - threads Lizzie gets involved degenerate very quickly |
Subject: RE: Jackie Oates new album From: Ruth Archer Date: 04 Sep 07 - 06:19 AM Yes, Simon - after having been threatened repeatedly by the BBC with legal action if she didn't desist from contacting them or their staff, because her previous activities were seen as a nuisance bordering on stalking. Poor old lizzie - obviously very hard done by. |
Subject: RE: Jackie Oates new album From: Ruth Archer Date: 04 Sep 07 - 06:21 AM Back OT, I'm happy to dsay that Jackie and Wistman's Woood will be playing Loughborough Folk Festival, 7 - 9 March 2008. I really enjoyed them at Sidmouth. |
Subject: RE: Jackie Oates new album From: mattkeen Date: 04 Sep 07 - 07:18 AM We are now talking about her rather than Jackie Oates! |
Subject: RE: Jackie Oates new album From: mattkeen Date: 04 Sep 07 - 07:20 AM Sorry I am just encouraging it to continue aren't I ! I am a degenerate. |
Subject: RE: Jackie Oates new album From: The Borchester Echo Date: 04 Sep 07 - 07:22 AM Most examples have by now wafted off in the Sidmouth breezes but it started here: Subject: RE: Jackie Oates new album From: GUEST,Can't wait to buy that! - PM Date: 26 Aug 07 - 08:22 AM Oops! Just testing! GREAT video Sir Keith of Chester! Great studio Phil! Jackie Oates has a very beautiful voice. I see Jim Causley's on Phil's list of artists. Jim and Jackie would be smashing together wouldn't they! and continued through incarnations such as Music Lover, One Viewpoint, The Gardener, Ay Up and in Another Place, Voice Of The Music. I wonder to myself does lizziecornish not realise the damage, the pain and the harm she causes to artists (in this case Jackie and two Jims - both housemate and brother)? Can she really be so self-obsessed as to imagine this sort of tripe helps? |
Subject: RE: Jackie Oates new album From: Ruth Archer Date: 04 Sep 07 - 07:42 AM Oh Lizzie - just give it a rest. IT'S NOT ABOUT YOU. "Oh and by the way, I've booked Jim the premier room in 'The Retirement Home For Young Folkies Who Have Been Beseiged By Lizzie Cornish'...where he'll receive expert attention and care." Anyone else getting visions of Stephen King's Misery...? |
Subject: RE: Jackie Oates new album From: GUEST,Eleanor Roosevelt's knickers Date: 04 Sep 07 - 07:55 AM Lizzie isn't going to stop posting under various names. It might be a good idea if those of us who recognise her just ignore her. In all of her posts she raves about the same subjects, uses the same expressions and punctuation and makes the same grammatical mistakes so she's easy to spot. |
