Subject: RE: Otley Folk Festival (UK)... 2007 From: Soldier boy Date: 07 Sep 07 - 10:31 AM Hi folks. This is a really great festival and I warmly recommend it to everyone. It has a very strong line up of artists for concerts and workshops etc and also, equally important in my opinion, a very strong 'fringe'. So there's lots of singarounds and musician sessions in the pubs etc ( I've always found The Manor, opposite The Civic centre, to be a brilliant venue for these, but there are other great venues as well) Just a quick question: Are camping-only tickets available again this year and do you have to pick them up first at the Festival Office or can you pay at the campsite when you arrive? Thanks. Chris |

Subject: RE: Otley Folk Festival (UK)... 2007 From: jimL Date: 17 Sep 07 - 02:00 PM A new campsite has been arranged. It is on the other side of Otley from the usual campsite, on the river side of the A660 between Otley and the A65 junction. Here is a map http://tinyurl.com/3d45s9 The site will not have running water, so please bring plenty of drinking water and containers. Jim |
Subject: RE: Otley Folk Festival (UK)... 2007 From: Tyke Date: 17 Sep 07 - 04:11 PM Oh I am pleased Jim! Thats a lot better than the Local BBC News report on the festival on the BBC Breakfast Programe this morning. |
Subject: RE: Otley Folk Festival (UK)... 2007 From: GUEST,Wheatman Date: 17 Sep 07 - 06:47 PM This is my first visit and I am concerned about the change in camping venue (I have a caravan). Is the new site caravan friendly? No running water could also be a problem. |
Subject: RE: Otley Folk Festival (UK)... 2007 From: MG John Date: 18 Sep 07 - 03:46 AM To: Guest Wheatman, I was wondering about that, because I used to live very close to the new site, and the area is on a hill on the north side of the town opposite Otley Chevin. I would guess that it is part of the Grammar School, in which case there will be levelled off areas. However, I do not know if they will be available for motor-caravans and caravans etc. Hopefully the website will give out more details SOON. John |
Subject: RE: Otley Folk Festival (UK)... 2007 From: GerryMc Date: 18 Sep 07 - 03:50 AM AFAIK the new campsite (field) will take tents, campers and caravans. We were looking for a site that would take everybody rather than have to have split sites. Hopefully Yorkshire Water might come to the rescue re. running water. If I get any more news I'll post up here Gerry :-) |

Subject: RE: Otley Folk Festival (UK)... 2007 From: GUEST,snozz Date: 18 Sep 07 - 05:10 AM The arrow in the original map was an artifact that only appeared when the link was followed. I've done another map showing campsite location and festival office. Festival Campsite I was told by one of the organisers last night that there *should* be water available - Yorkshire Water are trying to sort out a tap from the mains. I'll post confirmation of this if I get an update. There will be the usual shuttle buses to town all weekend. Snozz |
Subject: RE: Otley Folk Festival (UK)... 2007 From: Emma B Date: 18 Sep 07 - 05:15 AM Congratulations to everyone for finding alternative camping at such short notice. Subject: RE: Otley Folk Festival (UK)... 2007 From: HipflaskAndy Date: 18 Sep 07 - 05:47 AM Congrats indeed! Please could folks spread the word to as many others (as many other forums etc) as poss - that'd help combat any 'it's off' vibe that may have filtered out. I'm just about to put it on TalkAwhile, Longdogs, a myspace bulletin (which will only hit my signed up 'friends' - there are others out there with similar but diverse lists) and our own band's email list (once again - I know there are others out there with their own) - please spread the word. Thanks - Duncan |
Subject: RE: Otley Folk Festival (UK)... 2007 From: Cath Date: 18 Sep 07 - 11:02 AM We're hoping to get over for a few hours on Saturday - what's the parking situation? Subject: RE: Otley Folk Festival (UK)... 2007 From: GUEST,Snozz Date: 18 Sep 07 - 11:08 AM Parking is ok in Otley - There are 8 carparks, most of which are free. Subject: RE: Otley Folk Festival (UK)... 2007 From: GerryMc Date: 18 Sep 07 - 02:40 PM Beware of the AA signs though when you come into Otley as they point towards the old campsite Gerry :-) |
Subject: RE: Otley Folk Festival (UK)... 2007 From: GerryMc Date: 19 Sep 07 - 04:27 AM and some of those "P" signs are a bit cofusing on the map. Subject: RE: Otley Folk Festival (UK)... 2007 From: HipflaskAndy Date: 19 Sep 07 - 06:03 AM The town is small - takes me 'bout fifteen mins to walk from one edge of fest to t'other - so once you're in the middle of it - it's just minutes in any direction to it all.
