Subject: RE: BS: I'm in the Wikipedia!! From: Peter K (Fionn) Date: 31 Aug 07 - 11:08 PM Anonymity IS an option, but if you choose that route, the IP you used (whether at home, work or wherever) will be shown. "I remained anonymous, too, but did notice they allowed my addition fairly quickly." Kat, any edits you make on Wikipedia are pretty much instant (subject only to occasional system-lag), and there is no vetting before publication. But your edits are themselves fair game for editing from the moment they appear. Vandalism often survives less than five minutes: some people make it their business to "patrol" recent changes, watching specifically for vandalism. Others write clever little programs that revert any edits by known vandals or that originate from banned users/IPs. If you do make a change and it bites the dust immediately, your intervention is still there for posterity along with every other iteration of the article in question. (Find it by clicking the "history" tab.) My edits, usually concerning Croatia, Bosnia, the Ustaša etc, go under my name (Kirker). Notwithstanding that the subjects I dabble in are notoriously controversial, it hasn't caused any hassle. The system supports, and encourages, discussion, but unlike Mudcat there is no private messaging. Like Mudcat, it can be a bit irritating when a regular contributor/editor maintains anonymity. |

Subject: RE: BS: I'm in the Wikipedia!! From: Mrs_Annie Date: 31 Aug 07 - 07:02 AM Liz, what did you correct? What I see is incorrect because it talks about 'dress up Sunday' and it's actually Monday. And when I looked it said 'last edited Nov 2006' So how does one get to see the updated one? Or am I just being thick? |

Subject: BS: I'm in the Wikipedia!! From: Liz the Squeak Date: 31 Aug 07 - 03:05 AM I stumbled across the Towersey Village festival entry on Wikipedia yesterday... read the entry and thought 'that's not quite right'. So I submitted a correction and it's there! Read here ... for the true story. I decided that discretion being the better part, I'd remain anonymous but I may change my mind. LTS |
