Hi! Can any one inform me whether the surname "Coggins" is of Irish traveller descent?

Thanks

Pete

Pete,
According to MacLysaght's 'Surnames of Ireland' it is a variant of Cogan (Co. Sligo).
Have to say we never came across either among the Travellers we met, but that doesn't mean there aren't any.

Coggins
Irish: Anglicized form of Gaelic Mac Cogadháin
