Subject: RE: Seamus Kennedy's new book From: katlaughing Date: 09 Nov 07 - 12:00 PM I haven't had the energy or time to read too much of this or any other book due to illness, BUT I am getting rid of the pee-new-mow-nee-ah and have had a gander at this book and Mick is right...belly-laughs (bringing on coughing spells...ouch!), chuckles, and a few tears even. I know what goes into coordinating a book like this with so many anecdotes and different writers. They've come up with a great format; it's just like sitting down in someone's kitchen and listening in. Thanks, Seamus and the rest of you. It's a grand book! All the best, kat |
Subject: RE: Seamus Kennedy's new book From: Big Mick Date: 04 Nov 07 - 10:45 PM Listen carefully. You need to order this book immediately. Especially those of you who have spent any time on the road. I have been doing everything from chuckling to belly laughing outloud since I started reading it. Seamus is being modest when he points you to everyone but him. The story of his where John Denver comes into his gig is priceless. I am still laughing everytime I think of this story. Also the one where POTUS comes into the pub(Ireland's Own) on St Pat's. The last line that our Seamus laid on the President made me wet meself (which isn't all that hard the older I get....but this was funny!!) I can't put it down. Well written and with stories from some of the storied characters and performers of our times. Absolutely a must have, and I am going to be ordering at least four for presents to the other members of my band. Well done, lad. Mick |
Subject: RE: Seamus Kennedy's new book From: Celtaddict Date: 23 Sep 07 - 10:00 PM Seamus. I SAW you in early September. I TALKED to you. I BOUGHT a stack of CDs from you. Did you ever mention a BOOK? No-o-o-o-o. So I guess I'd better have it shipped. Congratulations, should be great fun. (And the Christmas one was a duplicate; shalom!) |

Subject: RE: Seamus Kennedy's new book From: Seamus Kennedy Date: 23 Sep 07 - 11:11 AM Thanks for the review, GUEST. All the guys write great stories, but Frank's are hilarious, especially when he does a couple in the style of Damon Runyan. A titbit that's not in the book - our editor at the publishing company was obviously unfamiliar with Damon Runyan's work and when we got edited proofs, she had edited and corrected Frank's Runyanesque style right out of the stories. We had to go screaming back, "No! That's the way they're supposed to read! Put it back the way it was!" Robbie O'Connell's stories of being around Liam Clancy are excellent; Harry O'Donoghue has one of the best ears for speech and dialogue I've heard, and Dennis O'Rourke writes a story as well as he writes a song. Subject: RE: Seamus Kennedy's new book From: GUEST Date: 23 Sep 07 - 09:14 AM I recently was delighted to buy a copy from Frank Emerson having dropped in on his day-after-Labor-Day gig at Kevin Barry's. (Frank was in good form.) The book describes some great (and not-so-great) scenarios. FIVE STARS ***** |

Subject: RE: Seamus Kennedy's new book From: Seamus Kennedy Date: 23 Sep 07 - 01:35 AM Good heavens! This is the first time I've seen this thread. Mike, I didn't send you the book for publicity! You were supposed to read it on the crapper. Okay, the guys and I were all Irish pub performers back in the 1970's, and we were corralled by Dennis O'Rourke (who coincidentally wrote Honky Tonk Moon for Randy Travis) into putting down our stories in book form. 414 pages long with a whole lot of words, and a bunch of puppy pictures. It retails for $21.95 (US), bit I'm selling it for $20.I'll pick up the postage. If any 'Catters want to PM me, I'll be glad to talk to you about it. I'm expecting a re-order this week, and I'll donate a few signed copies to the Mudcat auction. Alaska Mike, please PM me. Seamus |
Subject: RE: Seamus Kennedy's new book From: Alaska Mike Date: 23 Sep 07 - 12:12 AM So how did this thread drop off the grid? I just read the story of the king crab race in Nome and nearly fell off my chair laughing. Seamus and his friends are great story tellers with fantastic stories to tell. Mike |

Hope that helps. Looks as though they are selling this themselves rather than through a distributor? Congratulations, Seamus and friends. Subject: Seamus Kennedy's new book From: Alaska Mike Date: 08 Sep 07 - 11:51 AM Our own Seamus Kennedy has co-authored a wonderful new book titled "Clean Cabbage In The Bucket". This is an extremely funny book written by five Irish musicians (Frank Emerson, Seamus Kennedy, Robbie O'Connell, Harry O'Donoghue, and Dennis O'Rourke). The book is an entertaining collection of anecdotal tales of their experiences traveling and performing in pubs and concert halls over the past several decades. I just got my copy in the mail yesterday and have been chuckling and laughing out loud ever since. My wife thinks I've gone loony again. The stories are hilarious, the writing is sharp and witty, and the glow you will get from reading it is sure to keep you warm on the coldest of nights. All of you Mudcatters need to get this book. Mike |
