My God! Does nobody proofread anymore?

I just got this in the maiil from Amazon today, and did a quick skim in my "reading room." A couple of things jumped out at me, just skimming.

p.216, The Broomfield Wager - except that the music isn't for Gordon Hall's wonderful version of the ballad at all, it's What Is The Life Of A Man - funnily enough a different version from the one presented on p.88.

(As a complete aside I'm pleasantly surprised to be mentioned in the discography of that one.)

p.222, The Gypsy Lass - the first line of music is misssing completely.

Is there more? I don't know yet, but this is inexcusable as far as I'm concerned. It seemed nobody noticed this on the previous (long) thread, so I'm starting a new one. Was it fixed on a later printing and I just got unlucky? Or is it just that nobody has looked at the dots closely enough to notice?

Hah. We recorded a completely different version of the ballad, a long time ago. I have been working on learning an adaptation of the one that was supposed to be in this book, however - still a long way to go on that, I learn songs very slowly. Age has something to do with it...

Yes we do, Doug, but it didn't cost you much to read _my_ typo.

You can get the corrected PDFs of both from " Errata" in "Reader area" at The Folk Handbook Forum.

Typos are the bane of the printer - a folkie in Birmingham worked for a printer and they managed to get their business cards wrong - ooer. But cross referencing is automated in DTP apps - that is just finger trouble, brain fade, sloppy and ultimately always with us - especially in software. Look at Micro$ft Windows.

Then there is the Grauniad. And the Telegrope (up market UK Newspapers)

And then there is the wind assisted spool chequer - someone else who can't spell, but thinks they can, adds all sorts of erroneous speelings to the dicksionary of "Word" (etc) and the next users who know they can't spell trust it.

It's a jungle out there.
