Subject: Goodnight said the man in the moon? From: Mark Cohen Date: 23 Apr 99 - 07:01 PM I heard a song once at a folk festival that ended with the line, "Goodnight, said the man in the moon, goodnight." I remember it brought up memories of family car trips in the 50s/60s, but I can't for the life of me remember anything more about it, who sang it, where or when. Any help out there? (I tried the DT already.) |
Subject: RE: Goodnight said the man in the moon? From: campfire Date: 23 Apr 99 - 08:22 PM Does it start out "I see the moon, and the moon sees me?" Haven't thought of that song in more than 30 years, but we used to sing it on family car trips. That's all I can remember of it, but if its the right/same song, I'm sure I can get the rest of the words from family members. |
Subject: RE: Goodnight said the man in the moon? From: Mark Cohen Date: 28 Apr 99 - 03:48 AM No, I have memories of that one too. This one is fairly modern, I think. Probably from the 80's. (Remember the 80's?) We didn't sing it on car trips, but the song reminded me of those trips. Thanks, though. |

Subject: Lyr Add: ON THE ROAD (Carl Franzen) From: Bev Lawton Date: 28 Apr 99 - 10:48 PM I think this is the one you want : ON THE ROAD - John Denver Back in 1958 we drove an old V8 an when it'd gone a hundred thou' we got out and pushed it a mile. We didn't know who we were, we didn't know what we did, We were just on the road. Headin' down from Canada on a gravel road a mile from Montana Then my daddy read a sign and took us in the wrong direction. I asked my daddy where are we goin', he said we'll just follow our nose, so I look out the window and dreamed I was a cowboy. We didn't know who we were, we didn't know what we did, We were just on the road. I met a girl in a truck cafe, fell in love almost right away, Then the Mercury was ready to go and I had to leave her. Shoo-be-doo-be-doo-Sh-doo Shoo-be-doo-be-doo-Sh-doo-Sh-doo Go home said the man in the moon go home Go home said the man in the moon go home Because it's gettin' sorta late and I'll soon turn out my light Go home said the man in the moon Go home. We didn't know who we were, we didn't know what we did, We were just on the road. We didn't know who we were, we didn't know what we did, We were just a ridin' on We were just a ridin' on the road. |
Subject: RE: Goodnight said the man in the moon? From: Mark Cohen Date: 29 Apr 99 - 07:05 PM Thanks, Bev, I do believe that's the one. I had no idea it was by John Denver. I'll have to go and hunt down the music. Long live the Mudcat! |
Subject: RE: Goodnight said the man in the moon? From: GUEST,coffee em Date: 06 Jul 07 - 12:51 AM I don't think the songwriter is John Denver, though he covered it. Songwriter's last name is, I believe, Franzen, and it's driving me nuts that I can't remember the first name. Phooey! Anybody know it? |

Subject: RE: Goodnight said the man in the moon? From: Peace Date: 06 Jul 07 - 01:05 AM "If there is anything "wrong" with Michael Johnson, it is only that he is late. The competition is already dug in. On the other hand, those who have already acquired an appetite for artists such as those named above are primed for Johnson. Proof lies in the fact that Johnson had a successful single the first time out, a charming song by Carl Franzen called "On The Road" ("We didn't know who we were/we didn't know what we did/we were just out on the road.")" from About 60% of the way down the page. |
