On Friday, 28th September "The Music Institute" Folk Club in Guildford, Surrey, welcomes one of the folk scene's finest songwriters. Recently commissioned by the BBC to compose 20 new songs for Radio 2's award-winning "Radio Ballads" series, he is best known for his songs portraying the mining culture, society and people of his native North East England. "One of the best songwriters to come out of England in a long time" to quote Richard Thompson, no less.
